Lea looks absolutely gorgeous. The dress fits her better than I thought it would. The sleeves fall just off her shoulders, and the skirt hugs her legs. Her hair, which is tied up into a bun. Loose wisps of hair escape the clasp of her hair clip and cascade down her face. Even when something is imperfect on her, it looks so perfect.
"Is there something on my face?" I must've been staring for too long, shit.
"Yeah, it's the um," I pause for a moment.
"It's the confetti" I say.
"The confetti?" An awkward silence surrounds us, and I realize we're in the car. Why do I suck so much?"I was kidding."
My hands settle on my nape and dig into it to distract me from the embarrassment that is this. A long and painstaking silence settles over us, and then Lea laughs. She laughs.
"What's so funny?" I grumble."Nothing." She sings and I think a little part of me dies. The rest of the car ride goes silently with the low hum of Sofia by Clairo in the background.

We arrive at the party just in time. The party is what you'd expect it to be. Complete darkness and music blaring out of the speakers, there are various red cups filled with what seems to be beer. There's couples running up the stairs, holding each other's hands. And some juniors hanging off the couch.
"I want to go home already." Lea whines.
"Do you want those art supplies or not?" I say.
"I could pay for them myself any day."
"But do you really want to waste your allowance on colored pencils?" That shuts her up real quick.
"Nate!" Alice jumps right into me, making me topple into Lea and then Lea toppling into the shoe rack like some messed up dominoes.
"Alice, you're going to kill us." I say, hugging her back.
Alice detaches herself from me and then proceeds to hug Lea. Lea just stiffens up and hugs her back uncertainly. Should I have warned her about Alice? Yes. Do I feel bad about it? Not really because the look on Lea's face is a masterpiece. Her eyes have widened and her mouth is a sloppy smile.
"You look so pretty." Alice says."Thanks." Lea mumbles.
I hope Lea survives the twenty minutes.
