TEXAS WAS A FRESH START FOR RENEE SANTOS — Twenty-four year old graduate-student-slash-teaching-assistant living on her own in cozy suburban Austin, Texas. It was much different from her old life in California, but she managed with the help of her twenty-nine year old neighbor, Joel Miller, and his young daughter, Sarah.

Renee quickly became a part of their little family, falling in love with Joel not long after. Her own family doted on the new additions, counting down the days before it became official.

She didn't expect that timer to end so suddenly.

The day of the outbreak, nothing seemed off. Just a few things here and there — more police activity than usual, a long line outside of the local hospital, and a couple of unnerving radio broadcasts. Little did Renee know, it would be the beginning of the end.

Twenty years passed since she lost everything, only to get the world dropped right back into her lap in the form of a mysteriously valuable young girl and instructions to help smuggle her beyond the quarantine zone. She discovers the plan is going to be much easier said than done when the cargo is identified as among the infected.
