The Gift of Jay

We nervously circled up, facing down the Keepers as they surrounded us, spears at the ready.

"Lock them up," the chief commanded, "all but one. The gift."

"Which one?" one of the Keepers inquired.

Before the chief could respond, Jay piped up, "Guys, is this all really necessary? All the pushing and the poking and the zapping?" he asked with a laugh, making light of the situation. "Why don't we start over?" Jay approached the chief, clearing his throat, "My name's Jay, nice to meet you," he extended his hand with a grin.

"This one," the chief responded, smirking.

Two Keepers prodded Jay, separating him from the rest of us.

"No. Wait, where are you taking him?" Nya demanded, reaching out towards him.

"Jay!" Kai called out. More of the Keepers jabbed their spears at us, shoving us back. Kai threw his arms out, protecting his sister.

A Keeper close to me jammed his spear into my side and I doubled over, having been hit in just the wrong spot.

"Back off!" Cole yelled, putting himself between me and the Keeper.

I shot him an inquisitive glance, but he paid it no mind, only staying between the Keepers and me as they herded us towards a cell below the throne room.

"Watch it with that thing!" Kai shouted, being shocked again as we were forced into the cell. The gate slammed closed behind us, "You're making a big mistake!" Kai argued, pulling upwards on the gate. Cole and I joined him, throwing our weight into it.

"Let us out of here!" Cole called, lighting his fists into his Earth Punch and again, pulling at the gate, Nya and Zane hurried to the gate as well.

One of the Keepers walked up and calmly laid his spear across the bars of the gate, sending a shock through the metal, causing us to fly backwards, tumbling over one another.

"Remind me not to try that again," Cole moaned.

"Don't try that again," I joked half-heartedly.

"Nya? Kai?" We looked up as Misako stepped out from some bushes in the cell, Master Wu right behind her.

"Misako!" Nya exclaimed, scrambling to her feet.

"Are you all okay?" Misako asked anxiously, glancing from one of us to another.

"We're okay," Nya responded, relief filling her voice.

"What about you guys?" Cole questioned.

"Yes, we're fine," Master Wu answered.

"They've treated us pretty well, all in all," Misako elaborated.

"I've been in quicksand that was more comfortable!" A few yards away, Clutch Powers was reclined on a young-ish man's back as he did push-ups, straining against the weight of a full-grown adult. Beside them, another girl, probably in her late twenties, was fanning them with a palm branch. "Dwayne! How's that tunnel coming along?"

We followed Clutch's gaze to another wall of the cell where a another man was scratching away with a spoon. He sat down and stared at his hands, "My hands hurt?"

"Why are they doing this? What do they want?" Nya implored.

"It has something to do with some artifact they seem to be protecting," Misako mused, "I believe they think we're trying to steal it."

The five of us swung our gaze to Clutch Powers. "Were you trying to steal it?" Cole deadpanned.

"How dare you! I'm an archeologist, not a thief," he spoke defensively.
