ARTEMIS||
I don't know what the fuck is happening, the only thing I know is that Mateo is kissing me with what seemed like something else rather than lust. My hands automatically found his neck, letting them caress it, I felt the goosebumps on his skin and I couldn't help but smile throughout the passionate kiss we were having.
His tongue latched over mine as he took control, a moan escaped my lips as the room got ten times hotter. He left my mouth and let wet kisses on my chin going down my neck. I giggled at the tickling feeling I was feeling as my heart skipped a beat. My eyes go wide as he gently bit the skin on my neck.
His hot breath was heating my whole damn body up.
''Not so funny anymore, is it?'' He mocked leaving kisses and hickeys all over my collarbones. I couldn't answer as brain fog consumed my thoughts. I really was lucky. I had THE Mateo Adams kissing and biting my neck while others would dream of him even looking at them.
My phone rang suddenly. We ignored it as I continued enjoying his calm kisses that was soon making me fall asleep. I closed my eyes and the phone rang again. I sighed and put my hands on his shoulders, bringing him up for a kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck as our mouths collied. My phone rang for the third time. Killing the mood.
We both sighed at the same time as he got up to take my phone on my bedside table. He looked at my screen and threw my phone on the bed. I pushed myself up, letting my back rest on his headboard while I picked my mother's phone call.
"Hey, Mom. How's it going?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady, though a hint of frustration seeped through. She wasn't the type to bombard me with calls. If I didn't answer the first time, she'd know to wait. But now, with no response, a knot was tightening in my chest.
Mateo sat beside me, his brows furrowing, clearly picking up on the tension. He could tell something was off.
"I'm doing okay, sweetie, what about you?" After a long pause, my mom finally answered. The delay only heightened my unease. There was something in her voice—something I couldn't place but made my stomach churn.
"Mom? Are you okay?" I asked, unable to hide the worry creeping into my voice.
She sighed, the sound full of something I couldn't decipher. "My lawyer called me, Artemis."
My heart hit the floor. No, this couldn't be happening. Not now.
Mateo shifted next to me, probably sensing my distress as I stared at the screen in disbelief.
"He's coming back, my love."
The world went silent. My phone slipped from my hand, the impact muted by the ringing in my ears. My heart pounded in my chest like a war drum, drowning out everything else. Mateo was asking me if I was okay, but I couldn't answer. I couldn't move. My body was frozen in place as tears welled up in my eyes.
They're letting him out. They're letting him back.
No, no, no. This wasn't possible. It was too soon. I wasn't ready.
Without a word, I bolted from the bed, ignoring Mateo's frantic questions, his voice fading into the background as I rushed out of the room. I had to find Arion—nothing else mattered.
The hallways were eerily quiet as I ran, my thoughts a chaotic blur. I couldn't even remember his damn room number. I tried to focus, my hand tapping my forehead in frustration. Mom had told me everything when they transferred him, but now, everything felt like a fog.
"Artemis!"
A hand tapped my shoulder. I jumped, startled, and whipped around to face Luciano. His gaze was full of concern, his brows knit together as he studied me.
