Lyra's POV
I had left the pork chops out to thaw whilst waiting for Lucas and Adam came home. It still would be a few hours before they arrived. There was still work to be done around the house, so I got to work. To keep my mind busy. Their feathers were found. And just when I was starting to feel like this was going to be a forever home for us. I don't wish to think negatively, but you can't help when those thoughts pick at your brain. The twins, still on edge, turned the TV back on, but instead watched some children sitcom. And judging by their laughter, it served as a wonderful distraction. I so badly want this to work for us. I want to do my best to protect my family. But there's always something. Something going wrong or a "New Discovery" made. Why can't they just leave it be. There is no silver lining to our white cloud. It just keeps getting darker and darker.
"LYRA!" Seth shouted. I was so preoccupied, I'd not noticed they were trying to get my attention. They looked at me all worried and such, ready to leap into action to care for me. I quickly give them a soft yet reassuring smile. They seemed to relax some, but still curious.
"I'm sorry boys. It's just I...I was, um..just a little distracted, that's all. I've just got a lot on my mind. I didn't mean to alarm you. I'm sorry." I said as calmly and believable as possible. They didn't buy it. They leap to me, one standing on each side of me. Kanani took the vacuum from my shaky hands, and Seth, picked me up and cradled me in his arms, taking me upstairs, kicked open my bedroom door and laid me in my bed. I didn't say a word or argue with them. I needed to relax and calm my nerves, and what better way to do that then to sleep it off. As he tucked me in, he gave me a light kiss on my forehead.
"Sleep my dear. We'll take care of the rest of the house work. We'll wake you before our brothers get home so you finish preparing dinner, which is if you're up to it, of course." He stroked my hair and quietly headed out my door and closed it. I looked at my clock; 12:27 pm. I took a solid deep breathe, snuggled close into the blankets and closed my eyes to try to get some well needed rest.

Seth's POV
I quietly close her bedroom door and join my brother downstairs. The look on his face reads that he too, is concerned for Lyra's well being. Every time she wakes in the morning, she looks as though she lacking in sleep. And of course, not wanting us to worry, she brushes it off and tells us she's fine. But we all know better. We don't say a word to each other and continue with the house chores Lyra began. Little does she know, we all love her with everything that we have and own. Without her, we'd be alone and with nowhere to go or call home.
Memory Flash Back:
I and Kanani were dumped into the foster care system at a young age. Whenever we played with the other kids, our true natures tended to make themselves known and we were told on. We were isolated from the other children and only fed leftovers. We bounced from family to family, each home treating us the same, with the previous family telling the other what we were or what they thought we were. Trouble Makers. Misfits. Monsters. We stayed in the system for 12 years, no family wanting to keep us for an extended amount of time. The typical sob story of a misunderstood child, or in this case children. Our foster mother was a bitter old drunk who barely had any income and our foster dad was never around. One day, there was a knock on the door and two people, a boy and a girl about our age; one maybe being a little older, said that they were there to pick up their little brothers. At first I thought, "Wow, those brothers sure are lucky to be getting a home." The boy handed over some papers and exchanged some talk. Then the head of the house, our foster mother, walked over to me and Kanani. She looked at us with disgust.
"Well, well, well...you assholes are extremely lucky. These people are here to take you. I don't know why anyone would want rejects like you. You'll only end up a disappointment." She said in a low, menacing tone. I and Kanani were used to these kinds of threats, so we acted indifferent. A loud, rumbling growl came from the boy at the door. He had the look of kill in his eyes. His eyes. They glowed a deep golden color. The girl, who was much smaller than him I might add, seemed to hold him back from confronting our foster mom.
