Shay's POV
I remember when they first walk into our small and discrete town. I was 9 years old at the time and I was living with my aunt and uncle after my parents had past way in a tragic car accident. There was something off about the 5 strangers that came into our peaceful town. They never talked to anyone or looked at anyone. They just came in, did, what they needed to do, and went up to god knows where near the mountain. My aunt would always tell me to stay away from them from a young age. I did what I was told, but was always curious.
I am 19 years old now. I was sitting on the front porch of my aunt Monty's house; yeah I know I still live with my aunt. So sad; when I saw the girl and the twins walk through to the mini mart. It's amazing. They don't look like they have aged a year. She stopped on the sidewalk and spoke quietly to the boys. They nodded as one of the twins followed her inside the mart, while the other twin went off further down the street.
I have always wanted to go and say hi to the girl. She seems so young and it seems really weird seeing her come into town with much older looking guys, yet she shows no discomfort being around them. Everyone knows each other in Blue Water Town and people feel as though these 'intruders', if you will, are sent from hell to uproot our peaceful society. Harsh I know. But I feel drawn to the girl and I want to get to know her.
Just then she and her twin appear out of the mart with bags of supplies and groceries in their hands; and in my side peripherals, I saw the other twin joining them near the entrance. Without thinking things through, I got up and started walking towards them. They seemed to sense my presence, and turned sharply towards me, looking guarded. I slowed my walking, but still pursued.
"Shay Mitchel!!" my aunt Monty shrilled. Dammit. So close. I turned towards her and she wasn't looking at me, but at the girl and the two boys, who were already making there way quickly down the street. I sighed as I walked back up towards the porch. Monty eyed balled them as they totally disappeared.
"I told you to stay away from them. They are trouble." Monty exclaimed. This angered me. No one has made an attempt to get to know them and hear whatever side of their story and how they have been condemned and shunned for no reason. At least I am making an attempt to give them a chance to thrive in our town. I turned to her.
"You don't know them. Or what they are about. At least I'm am trying to be hospitable to them, but everyone in this town keeps scaring them away." I retorted back. Monty sighed and looked away from me. "I make the rules Shay, and you will abide by them. Understood?" I exhaled sharply and tried to calm myself. "Fine....I'll just find some other place to crash so I don't have to abide by said rules." I was obviously bluffing. I had nowhere else to go and I knew for a fact that any other remaining family wouldn't take in a 19 year old boy who should be living on his own by now. Monty knew I was bluffing also, but that didn't stop her from becoming completely petrified. She hated the thought of me living on my own and that I need to be coddled and looked after. Its suffocating.
She walked into the house with no further argument and I sat back down on the rickety porch. I think Monty now realizes that I am 19 and that she is not going to win as many arguments like ones' we have had in the past and I am now an adult and can make my own decisions, whether they be smart or dumb.
I will talk to that girl. And I will know her story.
