a month before. . .

The incoherent chatter from the students filled the small classroom while impatiently wait for the teacher to arrive.

Shin Kyungmi was already seated at her desk while writing in her notebook which became a routine a long time ago. Ignoring the obnoxious classmates around her that were gossiping loudly. Kyungmi wasn't interested in drama that wouldn't matter in a week from now. It was all circumstantial. Her focus was solely on school, nothing else. Competition amongst the students was very real when it came to exams. Kyungmi couldn't reach that number one rank. Despite all of her efforts, she couldn't budge her second place rank. Second place was something that was a bitter pill to swallow — Knowing she wasn't the best.

She felt someone tap her shoulder, pulling her attention away from her notebook. Her mind went straight to Miyeong, her eyes flicked up at the culprit. Her eyes widen when her eyes landed on the boy who's eyes was fixed on her — Burning into her soul.

"Hey, Kyungmi." The boy hummed, pausing for a moment. "Do you have an extra pencil?" Lee Cheongsan questioned, rubbing the back of his neck as he looked down at her with a small smile. Kyungmi's body stiffened as she looked at him. She tried to keep a neutral expression, not wanting him to know he was making her nervous. She gave him a quick nod before reaching into her backpack and grabbing a spare pencil. She always had a spare pencil and he knew that.

"Here you go." Kyungmi sighed, holding the pencil out for him to take. "You don't have to give it back." She quickly insisted, chewing on the inside of her cheek as she watched Cheongsan reach out, gently brushed his hand against hers before he grabbed the pencil from her. She could feel her cheeks heat up while catching the small grin plastered on his face.

"Thanks." He chimed happily, holding the pencil tightly. He was trying to hold back a cheeky smile, bigger than the one he was already wearing on his face. He could read Kyungmi like a book, after knowing her and studying her for so long, he knew her features and reactions. He was surprisingly okay with how much he has to work to get any reaction with her, how she avoids him like the plague. He knew why she was acting like this. Not that he liked it but he was willing to keep trying. He just wanted his girl back.

"Cheongsan!" Gyeongsu called for his friends, waving him over from across the room. "Stop flirting, you punk."

Cheongsan turned to his friend, shooting him a glare before looking back at Kyungmi who was still blankly looking at him.

"Remember to not work too hard and take breaks." And with that being said, Cheongsan returned back to his seats where all his friends were gathered around and Kyungmi continued her studies. Well, she tried to anyways. It was hard to ignore the small, simple action of their hands touching for just a brief moment. The lump in her throat and the knot that growing in her stomach when she thought about him.
