We sat on the fence. Not figuratively, literally. Jamie and I sat on the fence separating the road from the fields. Lavender fields to be exact. We decided it was a nice place to stop and rest since we had already been walking for a few miles. I watched as the stems slowly swayed in the breeze looking like a purple sea. I didn't know who they belonged to, if they belonged to anybody that is. I wasn't in the least bit curious. Jamie certainly didn't care in the slightest. She swung her legs over and jumped down into the lavender.
It was exceptionally tall for lavender and she was exceptionally short for a 16 year old. The tips of the lavender brushed around her waist as she helped me down from the fence. The second my feet were firmly on the grown she grabbed my hand and started running. I stumbled over myself trying to keep up and not lose my backpack at the same time.
We got to the middle of the field before she stopped. I tripped up for the last time, crashing into her and we both fell into a purple lavender scented cushion laughing. We rolled onto our backs and watched the sky through the gaps in the purple fuzz above us. The sun have been preparing to set for a while and was slowly tinting the sky. Fading from a bright blue to a soft purple, I reached for Jamie's hand. She's crazy but I couldn't ask for a better friend to run away from home with.
