Trumpkin explained to us that a horn was blown in the forest, High Queen Susan's magical horn to be exact, and that must have called them there. Then the Kings and Queens asked to be taken to the other Narnians, so at Trumpkin's direction we headed off into Narnian land.
The six of us boarded the boat that Trumpkin and I had arrived in. Which felt a little ironic considering it was the boat that was supposed to be delivering us to our deaths just hours earlier.
King Peter took the oars, while Trumpkin sat at the front, Queen Susan and Lucy together, and then King Edmund and I at the back.
I stared out at the lush cliffs surrounding the river we traveled down, attempting to wrap my head around my new situation.
"So, you're a Telmarine." A voice rang out.
I turned to look beside me, and King Edmund stared at me.
"I am... regrettably. My uncle is the King, Miraz, but his wife has just birthed a son. Which meant my brother and I were in the way of his claim to the throne... Which is why I was sent to be executed with Trumpkin." I replied.
"Being royalty was nice, but I suppose it was only a matter of time until my brother and I got in his way..." I stated wistfully.
"So your own uncle ... tried to drown you?" King Edmund asked.
"Yes. To put it plainly, I always preferred the company of my aunt." I replied, chuckling dryly.
"I see... where is your brother?" Edmund asked.
"I can only hope my brother escaped with his life, and has found somewhere safe to hide from our Uncle." I sighed.
I shook my head, "I can't imagine what he would say if he knew I was floating down a river with King Edmund, ancient ruler of Narnia."
Edmund chuckled, "Just call me Edmund." he said.
"Alright ... Edmund." I replied.
As we made our way down the river, I noticed Lucy looking towards the trees above us.
"They're so still." Lucy said sadly.
"They're trees. What'd you expect?" Trumpkin responded.
"They used to dance." Lucy remarked.
"Wasn't long after you left that the Telmarines invaded." Trumpkin explained, "Those who survived retreated to the woods. And the trees ... they retreated so deep into themselves that they haven't been heard from since."
Hearing another mention of the Telmarines, I casted my head down in shame.
"I don't understand. How could Aslan have let this happen?" Lucy wondered.
"Aslan? I thought he abandoned us when you lot did." Trumpkin replied.
"We didn't mean to leave, you know." Peter said.
"Makes no difference now, does it?" Trumpkin asked.
"Get us to the Narnians, and it will." Peter said confidently.
"So if you're a Telmarine, how come you tolerate Trumpkin?" Edmund asked.
"Well for starters, we almost drowned together so that stands for something." I started.
"And, my professor used to tell me and my brother Narnian tales. About Alsan, mythical creatures, the Kings and Queens and their fantastical victories against the forces of evil."
Edmund chuckled, with an alarmingly attractive smile.
"I wouldn't say fantastical." Susan replied humbly, and Lucy giggled.
