Remus could see the smirk of satisfaction on Regulus' face as Siruis stormed out of the Hall. Remus was basking in the glory of pulling this whole thing off when Lily began to talk.
"Remus, that wasn't very nice" She frowned.
"Yeah well neither is he, trust me it was deserved" Remus snapped back.
"I think it was funny, Black has been acting like a dick recently" Mary piped up.
"Mary! Your not helping matters here" Lily said pointedly.
"No she is. Showing how not everyone thinks of Black as this high and mighty prince. Not everyone here worships him you know." Remus grumbled.
Mary laughed at this comment, "I like him, Remus you should hang around us more, and I don't mean Sirius even though I would love to see how that plays out."
Remus considered this offer for a moment, he did quite like Mary, and Lily was good when she wasn't trying to
be a peacekeeper. Plus it could be good to have some people in his house. "Sure Mary, I'd like that," Remus smiled back, "Now if you all will excuse me I am going to go to the kitchens, not really feeling pork chops tonight.'
"I'll come, I don't eat much pork anyways," Mary said standing up.
With that Remus and Mary made their way to the kitchens, they walked in silence for the first little bit but it was surprisingly comfortable. Remus wasn't one for conversation most of the time, hence why he liked hanging around Regulus. Mary was a nice girl, always smiling at Remus in the halls or the common room, despite Sirius' teasing. The same could be said for Lily and Marlene. All around nice girls, just in a group with some shitty people.
"What is up with you and Sirius anyways? You have had a seven-year-long feud and I can't even remember why." Mary asked.
"He's just always been a dick to me, ever since the first year. I'm not sure why the boy has had it out for me. Maybe it's because I'm smarter than him and his big ego can't handle the competition." Remus replied, earning a laugh from Mary.
"It sucks you two can't get along, we would love to have you in the friend group." Remus just let this comment hang in the air as they reached the kitchens. He ended up grabbing some sandwiches the elves made for them, along with some cookies for Regulus. He always tends to come down here at night and get snacks, Remus secretly thinks it's because he enjoys the house elves, but Regulus would never admit it.
"Where are you off to now?" Mary asked.
"Slytherin dorms, got a delivery to make." Remus held up the cookies in his hand.
"You and little Black must really get along huh?"
"I would say he's my best friend, don't tell him that though he would probably hex me."
Mary laughed at this, "He's a strange one, I can't read him."
"That is kind of his whole persona, he plans to remain a mystery man to those around him."
"Well go have fun with your mystery man, I will see you tomorrow at breakfast," Mary smiled and headed back towards the boy's dorms.
Remus headed to the Dungeous slowly, appreciating the peace of the empty castle. When he reached there, he whispered the password to enter, walking through the common room without anyone batting an eye. They got used to his presence in 5th year when Regulus would bring him around. They both would rather avoid the Gryffindor common room at all costs. Remus walked up the stairs and went straight into Regulus' room. This time his dormmates were there, Barty and Evan, who both seemed unbothered by his presence as well.
"Ever heard of knocking?" Regulus glared.
"I brought you cookies." Remus smiled innocently.
"You are forgiven then," Regulus smirks as he takes the cookies from Remus.
"What about us Lupin?" Barty asks while Evan laughs beside him.
"You didn't put in your order ahead of time," Remus states.
"Neither did Regulus," Evan adds.
"He's the exception," Remus replies.
Barty then flops back on his bed dramatically, pretending to be stabbed, "Lupin you wound me! After all I've done for you!"
"Yeah yeah, I get it," Remus laughs.
Just then Slughorn, the head of the Slytherin house walks in. "Ah Remus, just who I was hoping to find. You have been requested by Professor McGonagall to meet her in the Gryffindor common room."
"Well wish me, luck boys, I'm off to battle," Remus states, as Barty sits straight back up to solute to him.
When Remus returns to the common room he is expecting a lecture from McGonagall about the prank he pulled on Sirius, but surprisingly she doesn't look that upset when he walks in.
"Remus" She smiled "I have been meaning to speak with you."
"Uh, what about Professor?"
"Well as you know we have gotten many first years this year, more than normal. Many have been complaining that they are cramped in their dorm, seeing as you only have one dormmate, we have decided to move you to make room for the first years."
Remus's face dropped, "What?"
"I figured that would be your reaction, I know you and Aden have probably become good friends after being dormmates for years, but I assure you your friendship will remain. This will also give you the possibility to make new friends."
The truth is Aden and Remus didn't care much for each other, they got along well and didn't mind one another presence, but they weren't friends. "Alright, whose dorm am I moving into?"
"There were only a couple of dorms with space for another roommate, so you will be with Mr. Pettigre, Mr. Black, and Mr.Potter."
Remus could have sworn all the colour drained from his face at this very moment. "Your kidding, I can't room with them! I can't stand them!"
"I'm sorry Mr. Lupin but it is the only available option for you, Aden has already moved into his new dorm and made himself at home. Maybe this could be your opportunity to make amends. Your stuff has already been moved, you are to begin staying there immediately." McGonagall smiled her thin-lipped smile and walked out of the common room.
You have got to be shitting me, Remus thought to himself. This was going to be absolute hell, Sirius would probably smother him in his sleep or something. Dreadfully he climbed the stairs to his new dorm, only to see James standing there by his bed.
"Hiya Remus! Welcome to our dorm!" James smiled brightly, sticking out his hand to shake Remus'. It's a shame really, James Potter seems like a good guy, but he can't be that good to be friends with someone like Sirius Black.
Remus hesitantly took his hand, "Um thanks James."
"I know we haven't spoken much, but I'm sure you'll like it here. Well for the most part," James said, eyeing what Remus could only assume is Sirius' empty bed.
"Look James you don't have to sugarcoat it, this is going to be absolute hell for all of us. Especially me." Remus stated.
"You think so Lupin?" Remus heard a voice from behind him that belong to no one other than Sirius Black.
