Cove was laying out on the shore, watching the clouds as the waves curved up around him. The sun was setting, nearly marking the end of the new day. He sighed as he watched the sky change in the warm hues of the sunset , the tiny pin-pricks of light forming as the world around him darkened. His ear twitched as he heard footsteps in the sand nearby, and he turned to look at the source.
Sam crouched down next to him, holding something behind her.
"Hiya, Cove!" Sam said, her smile bright, illuminated by the dimming light from the sun. Her form was tinged orange by the light, nicely complimenting her purple hair and feathers. Cove blinked, momentarily taken off guard by that, before smiling and waving slightly.
"Hi, Sam" He sat up and looked at her, scooting back a little so he wasn't so deep in the water. Sam was still crouching and still holding the item behind her back, whatever it was being conveniently covered by her wings.
"Have you ever had mango before?" Sam asked, still looking at Cove, not minding the water crashing around her ankles, even after nearly drowning days ago.
Cove shook his head. He hadn't even heard of mangoes before. Sam's jaw dropped, the feathers on her ears fanning out. She quickly, nearly dropping it, took the item she was holding out from behind her. The object was oddly shaped, and mostly yellow with tinges of red in places.
"This is a mango!" Sam spoke with excitement, nearly yelling. She quickly moved to pierce the skin on the object with one of her claws, peeling it back easily. She used her claw to cut out a long, triangular slice from the fruit, holding it out to Cove. He raised an eyebrow at the slice, glancing from it to Sam.
"Eat it! It's a fruit!" Sam said, looking at Cove expectantly. He gently took the slice of mango, and bit into it. His ears flexed outwards as he chewed on the fruit, quickly eating the rest of the slice. Sam giggled as she watched Cove eat the slice of mango.
"You like it?" Sam asked. Cove nodded.
"I want more." Cove stated. Sam blinked, and giggled again as he cut out another slice for him and held it out. He eagerly took it, eating it nearly just as quickly. Sam cut out a slice for herself, happily eating it.
