My brothers and I haven't had the best life since our parents died from a car crash when they went to work. They never told us where they worked but even after being alone with my brothers for long hours my mom still cared for us, on the other hand my dad not so much. My dad was harsh on my brothers Mark and Jaxon and just ignored me by never talking to me, so I never grew a relationship with him. After they died we needed to go live with our grandad, Otis in a small town named Portnashker, in Wyoming. We lived on the outskirts of town in a well sized cabin. We were well secluded from any other civilization due to being in a forest surrounded by huge mountains around our town. Life was going fairly well since our grandad had 12 hour shifts being the sharif of the town. Although my brothers were getting used to it, I was not so much. I had a strange feeling about this town. Something was off. I never trusted anyone and that is a lot of why I don't have friends. Although I do have my brothers, my brothers are older by a year or two but they still talk a lot more with each other leaving me to find some questionable things.
I started to look into this town but found nothing also considering that the town had no wifi. I also discovered the strange behavior in the town by people staying out of the woods and if they saw anyone go in the woods they would pull you back saying that they were saving your life. Knowing better I didn't dare go in those woods but a part of me wondered what was in those woods. As much as I tried to tell my brothers about this town, my oldest brother Jax would always tell me that I was just being paranoid. On the other hand Mark took note of it but never agreed with me or never saw the importance of it until one fateful day.
As we got out of school we started to walk home after meeting in the courtyard because of how small our town was the schools were all together. While we walked home we were walking on the side of the road when I heard a loud yell or whistle coming from the forest. I asked if my brothers heard it and they said it might have just been an elk. I wasn't so convinced. I stayed there watching for a while when Jax yelled to come on. I still stayed there sure that there was something until Jax was fed up and grabbed my backpack but then as soon as he did a whistle followed with a shadow crossing the forest. My brothers were frustrated that I was too focused on the woods. As we got to the house Jax went up stairs and Mark told me to promise him that I wouldn't go in those woods. I told Mark that there was something wrong about this town and that it was in those woods. I could tell that he wanted to believe me but was too afraid of the truth. He went up stairs and I was left alone down stairs. Our grandad got off at nine so I decided to look around since we didn't have much to do. As I looked around in the shed, I saw a crossbow. I decided to take it to have some sort of defense. I went upstairs and wrote down my findings and my experience in my journal I kept with me.
"After only being here for a week I have learned so much more about the strangeness of this town to those mysteries of the woods, to the sounds I hear all around but there was one thing for certain, whoever believes me or not there is something in those woods. "
