Soon they were on their way again, the Prince was eager to show her the surprise he had planned. Jezamine's mood changed after seeing the crown for herself. The mission her father had given her to complete at first seemed impossible but now was possible to accomplish. A small weight lifted off of her shoulders as she smiled to herself.
Alexander stopped once they reached the stairs leading to the turret, gesturing for her to go up first. Jezamine let her curiosity get the better of her, she climbed the stairs. Wondering what the Prince wanted to show her. She thought they were having dinner together...
Once inside, she saw the small turret was ablaze with candles and decorated with flowers. In the centre was a blanket set out with cushions and beside it, a basket and honey wine. The Prince really has outdone himself, not having to go through all the trouble to impress her.
Jezamine couldn't keep denying it, she was attracted to the Prince. She knew it had only been a couple of days but she felt connected to Alexander in a way she couldn't explain.
"This is too much Alexander..." Jez said in awe.
"I wanted to be alone with you, away from all the...the..." He stuttered.
"Royal life?" She tried to help him find the words he was looking for.
"Yes..the Royal life." Alexander agreed as he poured them both a flute of wine. "I wanted to learn more about the mysterious Lady Jezamine."
He wanted to know more about her?
Jez had to think fast. Telling half the truth while lying had worked earlier, so she decided to continue use that technique.
"What is it you want to know?" She asked, frightened of what he might ask.
"Tell me more about yourself. Do you have siblings? Where did you grow up? Tell me anything you feel like sharing!" He placed his hand on hers as they sat on the cushions. "I just want to get to know the real you..."
He can't know the truth...
"I don't have any siblings by blood, but I do have an adopted brother." She started with that.
"Is he an honourable man or is he a nuisance?" Alexander asked.
"A bit of both I guess...He's good at what he does, but he still manages to be a pain."
"What does he do for a job?"
"He is a merchant, like my father. He is my father's favourite as well. The son he never had..." Jez answered, never having admitted this out loud to anyone before.
"And you?" Alexander asked, running a hand gently across her cheek. "What do you do?"
"My father wants me to take over the family business but..." Jezamine stopped.
"But what?" The Prince placed a finger under her chin, forcing Jez to look into his golden eyes.
"I don't think I want to take over the business like I once wanted. I have always wanted to do more. Be more... If you know what I mean?" Jez blurted out, causing Alexander to look at her with concern
What was she doing? She couldn't be more than a thief. She would never live the life of a true Royal or travel the world. She needed to focus on the mission at hand.
A million thoughts ran through Jezamine's mind at once as she began to have a panic attack. Her breathing quickened. She needed to keep her emotions from getting the better of her, otherwise she would get side tracked from her main mission. Wishing again that Alexander wasn't so easy to like...
