Doctor Who - the Doctor's daughter

Chapter 1

John and Rose were being tossed around inside the TARDIS. Finally the TARDIS landed. John and Rose opened the doors and stepped out. Rose had red hair. Immediately they were surrounded. John was grabbed. Suddenly they heard the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked. Then a female voice said coolly: "Let my Father go or else I will make use of this gun." The soldiers turned around. A brown haired girl who looked exactly like John stood there with a big gun in her arms and raised. The soldiers let go of John and left. The girl lowered the gun and said: "Hello Dad." John said: "Jenny. It's so good to see you. Oh how you've grown." Jenny set the gun down and ran over to John and launched herself into his open arms. John was knocked down by the force of Jenny hugging him. She said: "Oh Dad, I've missed you so much." John sat up with her and said gently: "I've missed you too. Jenny, there's someone I want you to meet." Jenny stood and helped John to his feet and said: "here." John said: "thank you. Jenny, meet my wife Rose Tyler. Rose, this is my daughter Jenny." Jenny smiled and held out her hand and said: "hello Rose. Or should I call you Mom?" Rose laughed and shook her hand and said: "you can call me whichever one you prefer." John studied Jenny intently and said: "Jenny, you changed. The last time I was here, you were blond. Now you have brown hair." Jenny let go of Rose's hand and said: "I was wondering when you were going to notice that. I can explain why I look different from when you last saw me. But not here. Follow me. Both of you. You'll be safe as long as you stay close to me. I'm the General around here. That's why they listened to me when I told them to let you go. They learned quite a while ago not to question my authority. I'll tell you that story once we're away from any possible listening devices." Rose looked at John and said gently: "lead the way, sweetheart." Then Jenny led them through the building. She said: "I live on one of the upper floors. Fourth level, actually. I always love going through the laser beams. Especially when the lift takes too long or the stairs won't work. Back flipping over the laser beams is my favorite technique. I can also deactivate the laser beams via a remote on my wrist." Rose said gently: "why don't you show us?" Jenny smiled and said: "I'll show you both ways. Anyways, here we are." She typed in a code and opened a door and walked in and held the door open for them. John and Rose walked in. Then Jenny closed the door behind them. John said: "nice place you've got here." Jenny walked over and sat down on the couch and said: "it's not much. It's simple and basic. Please, sit down." John said: "still, it's a nice place you've got here." John and Rose sat down on the couch across from Jenny. John said: "okay, please tell us why you look different from when I last saw you." Jenny said: "I regenerated after being shot. Hence the brown hair. You two can stay here for as long as you need." Rose slipped her hand into his hand and said gently: "Jenny, when you spoke to your Father last, you said that something was wrong here. What is it?" Jenny looked uneasy and said uneasily: "I think you should probably see for yourselves. Just a word of warning, it's not pretty." Rose shrugged and said: "I'm called Bad Wolf and your Father is called The Oncoming Storm. I've seen some pretty disturbing things." Jenny said uneasily: "not like this. Believe me, it's nothing like you've ever seen before." John reached over and took Jenny's hand in his and said gently: "hey, I came here as soon as I got your call. I promised you that I would always come back when you call me. Even if I'm on some random planet. Because you are very important to me." Jenny hopped over to John and Rose and settled in close to John. John wrapped his arms around her and held her close to him. Rose sensed that Father and Daughter needed time alone. Then Rose slipped her hand out of his hand and stood and walked away a short distance. She walked up the stairs and looked in the rooms and found one room and walked in and closed the door behind her. Meanwhile John and Jenny sat on the couch in an embrace. Jenny buried her head in his chest and said: "Dad, I'm scared. I'm the youngest General here. I think, when this is over, I'm going to step down from my role as General and hand it over to one of the soldiers that I trust and just leave with you and Mom." John gently stroked her hair and said gently: "shhhh. It's okay. I know you're scared. Hell, I'd be scared too if I was in your boots. Which, said boots are currently kicking me in the leg." Jenny took off her boots and said: "better?" John said: "yes. Much better. Jenny, it's okay to be scared. I know how you feel. Come here." Jenny curled up close to John tightly. John didn't mind. John gently stroked her hair and laid his head on top of hers and held her close to him and spoke comfortingly to her. She broke down and cried. John knew that she'd been strong for too long and needed to drop the facade and be vulnerable. She needed her Dad. He silently regretted ever believing that she was just a soldier and nothing like him. He hadn't seen this side of his daughter. Maybe, he hadn't wanted to. He owed her an apology and a big one at that. He'd been wrong to ever believe that she was just a soldier and nothing like him. The truth was that she was too much like him. And it was kinda scary. He said gently but quietly: "I'm so sorry I ever believed that you were just a soldier and nothing like me. I regret ever believing that. The truth is that you are too much like me. I was wrong to ever believe that you were just a soldier and nothing like me. Donna tried to tell me that but I didn't listen to her. If I could turn back time and redo our first meeting, I would treat you better than I did. Please forgive me." Jenny said: "I forgive you. And I understand why you felt the way you did the first time. You'd only just met me and I was holding a gun. But I proved that I was different from the other soldiers when I spared that one soldier's life. I could have easily shot him. But I shot the pipe instead." John said gently but quietly: "I've been told that I am an idiot. It's true." Jenny said: "Mom went upstairs into the third room down from mine. I heard that door close. The door squeaks when it opens and closes. I've tried to do something about that door. But for some reason, it doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me." John held her close to him and let her cry into his chest. After a while she stopped crying and pulled away from him and said: "come on. Let's go." John said: "let's get your Mom first." Suddenly they heard a banging sound from the third room upstairs. Jenny stood and put her boots back on and laced up and tied her boots. John stood and grabbed his sonic screwdriver. Then Father and Daughter ran up the stairs to the third room. Jenny tried to open the door only to find that it wouldn't open. Jenny said: "damn it. Mom, stand back! I'm going to kick the door down." Then Rose backed up. Then Jenny backed up and ran and jumped and did a flying side kick full force. The force of the kick tore the door clean off its hinges. John whistled and said: "okay, I didn't see that one coming. Jenny, that was awesome." Jenny shrugged and said: "there's plenty more where that came from." Then Rose walked over to the Father and Daughter duo. Jenny said: "come on. We'd better hurry." Then they ran out of the apartment. John and Rose followed Jenny. They turned a corner. John said uneasily: "that doesn't look good at all. How the hell are we going to get across there without getting fried?" Jenny said: "wait here. I'll deactivate the laser beams from the other side. Time to deploy my favorite technique. You two might want to step back." John and Rose backed up. John grabbed Rose's hand and intertwined their fingers. Then Jenny back flipped over the laser beams. Rose said in awe: "no freaking way. How the hell is she able to do that so fast? Not even I can do that." John said: "I don't know. But it's totally awesome." Jenny reached the other side and deactivated the laser beams. John said: "and that's our cue. Come on!" Then John and Rose ran down the hall to the other side where Jenny was. John and Rose reached the other side where Jenny was and said: "now what?" Jenny said: "follow me. It took me months to infiltrate this part of the building." Then Jenny led them into a room. They ducked and concealed themselves. John said uneasily in a whisper: "what the hell is that?" Jenny looked at him and said uneasily in a whisper: "I don't know what it is. I just know what it does. Watch." They watched from above. John grabbed his glasses and put his glasses on. Rose said uneasily in a whisper: "bloody hell. I thought I'd seen just about everything while working at Torchwood. But this is beyond anything like I've ever seen even traveling with John." John said uneasily in a whisper: "so, what do we do to fight it?" Jenny said uneasily in a whisper: "we can't. I already tried reasoning with it and it didn't listen. That thing doesn't listen to logic." Just then the room shook. Jenny grabbed onto a rail and looked over the edge. John quickly pulled Rose over to his side and grabbed onto an overhead solid bar. He looked over at Jenny and crawled over to Jenny with Rose. Jenny looked at John and said uneasily: "that thing is getting powerful. Those people down there are fueling it. If I could get down there and put that thing out of commission permanently, I could prevent any more deaths. But I'd need something powerful enough to counter it." John grabbed his sonic screwdriver and said: "will this do the trick?" Jenny said: "definitely." John handed his sonic screwdriver over to Jenny and said: "do me a favor and don't let it fall into that vat. I don't want to have to replace it." Jenny said: "I won't." Then Jenny stood and put John's sonic screwdriver in her pants pocket and secured it. Then Jenny grabbed a chain and swung down and knocked the people into the vat. (The people are mannequins.) John smirked and said: "Rose, she reminds me of you." Rose smirked and said: "oh yeah. She's even doing that move that I pulled when you were in your ninth incarnation when you got grabbed by the nestene consciousness. Which, if I'm not mistaken, that's exactly what that creature is. Stay here. I'm joining our daughter. I have my own sonic screwdriver." Then Rose stood and grabbed her sonic screwdriver and stuck it in between her teeth and grabbed a chain and swung down and joined Jenny. Rose dropped down and grabbed her sonic screwdriver from between her teeth and flipped it on and snuck over to the vat. Jenny said: "heads up!" Rose ducked out of the way. John watched from above as Jenny and Rose worked in tandem. The two women aimed their sonic screwdrivers at the vat from both sides and fired. John watched with pride. There was a blinding light followed by an explosion and John had to shield his eyes. When the explosion subsided and the light died down, John slowly unshielded his eyes and looked over the edge. The two women lay on the ground beside a now destroyed vat. John stood and grabbed another chain and swung down and dropped down and ran over to the two women. He knelt down beside the two women and checked. They were alive. Just unconscious. John sat there beside them. A few minutes later Jenny groaned and came to and sat up and said: "ugh. Please tell me someone got the name and serial number on that explosion." John chuckled and said: "at least your humor is still intact. Are you okay?" Jenny said: "I'm fine. Just a bit disoriented." A few minutes later Rose groaned and came to as well and sat up and said: "well that was certainly interesting." Jenny said: "what was that creature?" Rose said: "it was a nestene consciousness." Jenny stood and stumbled. John stood and steadied her. Jenny handed his sonic screwdriver back to him and said: "thanks for letting me use it." John said gently: "yeah. No problem. Rose, can you get up on your own?" Rose stood and said: "I'm fine. I'll head back to the TARDIS." Then Rose walked back to the TARDIS. Meanwhile, John and Jenny stood there. John said gently: "do you need to grab anything from your apartment?" Jenny said: "just my duffle bag." John said gently: "then let's go get it. I'm going to pick you up and carry you there, okay?" Jenny nodded and said: "that's fine." Then John scooped her up and carried her back to her apartment and typed in the code and walked in and set her down on the couch and said gently: "which room is yours?" Jenny said: "the first room. You'll find a duffle bag on the bed." John nodded and ran up the stairs into her room and grabbed her duffle bag and slung it over his head and ran out of her room and ran down the stairs and walked over and scooped her up and carried her back to the TARDIS. Jenny wrapped her arms around his neck and laid her head on his shoulder and said: "you're still wearing your glasses." John said: "must have forgotten to take them off." Jenny said: "I love you, Dad." John said: "I love you too, Jenny." They reached the TARDIS and walked in after Jenny handed her role of General over to a soldier that she trusted a great deal. Rose closed the doors behind them. She said: "I had the TARDIS prepare a room for our daughter. It's the room next to ours." John nodded and walked up the ramp into the room and set Jenny on the bed and helped her take off her boots. He set her duffle bag down on the floor beside the bed. Then he walked out of her room and closed the door behind him and walked down the ramp into the console room. Rose said: "it's been a crazy day, yeah?" John said: "yeah. Our daughter is currently resting. That explosion really knocked her for a loop. You know, I was wrong to ever believe that she was just a soldier and nothing like me. The truth is that she's too much like me. Which is kinda scary. I've made a lot of mistakes in my lives. I acted cold towards her when I first met her. When I first met her, I saw a reflection of myself in her. And I didn't want to admit that she's like me. Today, I saw a different side of her that made me regret ever believing that she was just a soldier and nothing like me. She broke down and cried. She was vulnerable. She'd been strong for too long. Rose, I acted like a lousy Father when I first met her. I should have seen it before. All she wanted was to be accepted by her own Father. And instead, I acted cold towards her. What do I do?" Rose smiled and placed her hand on his cheek and said gently: "it sounds to me like you're already on the right track. Admitting that you were wrong is the first step to healing. You apologized to her and she forgave you. And what's more, she understood. Honey, you may be a Time Lord. But you're also her Father. When you first met her, you didn't know how to be a Father. You got a crash course in parenting. You weren't expecting it. If there's one thing that I've learned, it's that even though you deny it, you are a soldier too. You just don't see it. You are a soldier like her. Because you fought in a war. You saw a reflection of yourself in her because she's your daughter. You acted the way you did because you saw a reflection of yourself in her and it hurt and you didn't know how to react to having a daughter all of the sudden. Jenny reminded you of your past and you were reminded of the pain of your past. But she's grown up into a strong young woman." John covered her hand with his and said: "how is it that you know just what I need to hear when I need it before I do?" Rose smiled and said: "feminine instinct. I'm going to head up to our room and lay down myself." Then John let go of her hand. Then Rose walked up the ramp into their room and closed the door behind her and changed into pajamas and lay down and fell asleep. John sighed and walked around the console.
