Monday May 3rd 5:30pm-
I finally stopped crying. My mascara stained my bed spread. I changed into some more comfortable clothes. Mom and Jackson still weren't home so I just watched "Orange is the New Black" on Netflix. Once again it was raining outside. At least the new house has a nice front and back yard. The old house had no yard. I never really took the time to explore my new neighbors. So I shut off the TV, got an umbrella, and headed out the door. I started left and slowly walked in the rain. The house I passed was very pretty. Perfectly painted white with trimmed hedges. The gravel from the sidewalk was getting in my shoes. My feet started to hurt but I wanted to keep walking. I passed this bench in a patch of grass by this big oak tree. There was a tiny sign in the ground that said,
" rest peacefully Bryan, 12/5/09 forever in our hearts"
I guess the owner of the house lost some friend or family member. I felt like I lost my dad, like he disappeared. I turned around back home. I was just about to unlock the door when a lady had stopped me.
"Oh hello dear, sorry if I startled you but I'm having a garage sale today. I'm about to put things away so if you want to look around you better come now." She said to me. I had never seen her before. I think she's my neighbor. I thought about it for a minuet and replied,
"Okay I'll be over soon."
She said "wonderful!!"
I waited until she left the driveway. then I began walking slowly up to her house. It was a long and narrow house. A light brown/tan. There was tons of junk all down her driveway. Baby dolls, jewelry, clothes, books, tools, sofas, candles and blankets. But something caught my attention. Behind a box there was a mirror. It was beautiful, looked like it was form the 40's. I pushed the box to the side and picked up the mirror. It was bronze and had carvings in it. Then the lady came over to me and said,
"Oh I see you like this.. It was my mothers"
This women was probably in her late 60's so her mom must have died.
"Yes it is beautiful, how much?" I replied instantly.
"Oh take it for free! I defiantly don't want it" she whispered.
How would she not want her mothers mirror and giving it to a stranger?!
I didn't refuse this offer.
"Oh thank you so much" I said to her.
She smiled at me and walked away. I looked into it, it was getting ruined in the rain. I put it under my umbrella and ran home. When I unlocked the front door mom and Jackson were sitting on the couch.
"Oh my goodness Emma where have you been?!" She yelled. How long was I gone?
"I just went for a walk..."
Mom raised her eyebrows at me.
"In the rain? What is in your hand?" She asked.
I looked down at the mirror.
"I got it from our neighbor" I exclaimed
Jackson said "it's creepy why the hell would you take that?"
It wasn't creepy at all. More like absolutely stunning to look into. I stormed up stairs. I put the mirror in my bathroom right over the sink.
"Perfect"
I went back down the hall into my room to start homework. It was a long day.
