𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐘 𝐏𝐎𝐕I SLAMMED my phone on my desk for the third time today. I had one more day to find a date for the Embassy Gala and my fifth option had just fallen through. God fucking dammit I cursed under my breath. No way in hell was I about to tell my mother I couldn't find a date.
I tried to rack my brain with the options I had left. I didn't want to bring anyone from the team but at this point, they were my only option. I looked out my office window and watched everyone from their desks.
Tara? Definitely not, she would never let me live down the fact that I couldn't find an actual date.
JJ? No, everyone knows she's married.
Penelope? I'm pretty sure she's blacklisted from events like this by the CIA
I can't bring Luke, Spencer, Matt, or Dave because one: everyone knows I'm a lesbian, and two: everyone knows I'm a fucking lesbian. Bringing a guy is basically the same as carrying a banner that says I'm a fucking loser who can't find a date. Also, my mother would be overjoyed if I brought a guy and I can't have that happening.
I looked around the bullpen and brought my gaze to the last person: Y/n.
In all honesty, she had crossed my mind multiple times but I always pushed the thoughts away. But now I'm wondering why I did. She's intelligent, charismatic, kind, funny, and not to mention absolutely beautiful...
STOP
I went back and forth in my head. On the plus side, everyone there would love her, which would be extremely beneficial for me. She's also the newest agent which means she'll feel like she has the most to prove. On the negative side, y/n pulls out a part of me that I don't like people seeing. What is it about her that just so....gravitating?
I thought it over for a minute. It doesn't have to mean anything. It's just two agents going to a gala.... right?
I got up from my chair and headed to the door. Halfway there, I stopped for a second, I need a game plan. I need to figure out a way to ask her to come with me without making it sound too personal or desperate. What's something professional I could offer her that she couldn't say no to?
I smiled to myself as an idea popped into my head.
𝐘/𝐍 𝐏𝐎𝐕
I LIFTED my head up as I heard Emily's office door open. "Y/n. My office." She said emotionless as she poked her head out the door before retreating back to her office. I furrowed my eyebrows and tried to recall if I had done anything wrong since our last case, which was about a week and a half ago. Nothing.
"Someone's in trouble." Luke taunted as I stood up. I turned around and flipped him off, earning a laugh from everyone, before heading to Emily's office. We hadn't talked since she declined my invitation to join the team for dinner. Not that I wasn't expecting that. I mean I know she's very busy, but I felt like we kind of connected on the last case. I guess not...
I opened the door to her office and she immediately looked up and gestured for me to take a seat across from her. I immediately sat down, bouncing my leg up and down nervously. What is this about?
"I have a proposition." She said suddenly.
"Okay," I said intrigued. My curiosity now beating my nerves.
"If you agree to it, I will clear you to go into the field on your own. No more supervision on my part." She said slowly.
"Okay, I'm in!" I answered quickly with a small smile. Honestly, I was so ready to have full freedom in the field I would do anything.
