y/n hated death.
the borderlands, of course, was full of it.
shuntaro chishiya, however, was all but indifferent to any of it, so they balanced each other out in a way. it was pure coincidence that they'd even met, happening to enter the same game when they'd arrived in the borderlands, but as luck would have it they turned out to be a very productive team. they represented opposite ends of the diamond-player spectrum, with chishiya being the cold and calculating type and y/n being empathetic and emotionally intelligent. both did best in diamond games, but unlike y/n chishiya had no trouble in hearts games either.as they walked down the hallway of the beach's building together, y/n looked over at him, "what are you thinking about?", and he looked up slightly, "the games. there has to be a game master, and i need to find him." she sighed, "come on chi, there's nothing we can do about it now! we can't leave the beach anyway, plus how do you know the game master's a man? let's just relax while we're here ok? even if it's just until our next game?" "do what you want, but i'm not going swimming when there's things to be found still. and there's no 'we', i work alone," he said. "'i work alone'," she mimicked him, deepening her voice and making a face,"what tv drama did you crawl out of? we've been together since we got here and you haven't left me behind! you've had plenty of opportunities to ditch me and you haven't, just admit that i'm your friend now! i think of you as my friend, no matter how cold you act." he said nothing in return, just stuck his hands in the pockets of his white hoodie and continued walking beside her.
she held the door for him as they made their way outside to the pool and he only nodded as a thanks, going to stand under an umbrella as y/n waved to arisu and usagi who were already there. "you can stand here and watch people like a stalker if you want but i'm going to talk to them, k?", she said, and he nodded, "sure," and she frowned slightly, finding herself hoping he'd come with her. she wanted him to like her, to actually be her friend! she knew that deep down he did care about her at least a little, but it would be nice if he wasn't so...icy. she'd learned to read him over time, to notice the slight changes in his monotonous expression, but no matter how many subtle looks of softness she caught she knew he'd never openly admit to any feeling at all.
"hi!", she greeted the two, and they smiled back at her, "hi y/n, how are you?", usagi asked. "i'm alright, but i'll have to play another game soon," y/n said worriedly. "us too. don't worry, we'll do it together," arisu said, and she smiled slightly, "i don't know how i'd survive without friends like you guys and kuina to keep me sane." "did i hear my name?", a tall girl in a blue bikini asked as she approached them. "oh hi kuina! yes, i was talking about how i'd go insane without friends like you guys," y/n laughed. "same, we're lucky to have each other," kuina said affectionately, "you look cute by the way! new swimsuit?" y/n flushed slightly, looking down at the light green swim top and shorts she was wearing. she'd unzipped her hoodie once she got outside so it was fully visible, although she didn't think if it until now, "not really new, but thanks i guess!" "no seriously, you're hot! i bet you have plenty of suitors in the real world," kuina said. y/n laughed, "not that i know of! besides, it doesn't do much good here does it, we're probably going to die anyway. speaking of, do you have to do a game soon too?" kuina nodded, "unfortunately yes." "join us! if it's a clubs game we'll have a much better chance," usagi said, and arisu nodded, "yeah, we should ask chishiya too, he's ridiculously smart! you're friends with him aren't you y/n?" y/n sighed, "he's my friend, but i don't think i'm his." "don't take it personally," a voice said from behind her, and she startled. "i need to join a game too, i heard there will be one tomorrow near here," chishiya said, and kuina nodded, "great!"
as the sun sank in the sky, people started to go back inside to either party or sleep, but before y/n could follow someone grabbed her shoulder, "hey." she turned around to see a tall man in a black shirt standing there, recognizing him, "oh, you're an executive right? do you need something?" "my name's niragi. actually i do need something, come back to my room with me," he said, not letting go, and she wiggled out of his grip, uncomfortable, "well, niragi, i don't think i'm the right person for the job. goodnight." he didn't accept this answer and grabbed her roughly by the arm, pulling her back towards him and holding a rifle up to her head, "it's easy, i promise." her eyes widened slightly and he put his hands on her waist, "you're pretty good looking, and there are no laws here so i don't need a yes." she broke away again and started to run back into the building, but he caught up to her easily, forcefully dragging her into the nearest room. she kicked and screamed but he held her down onto the bed, ripping her hoodie off and groping her chest as a tear slid down her face against her will.
