"Yellow!!"
The littlest diamond, Pink, called the larger diamond who was sitting in her tall throne, busy as always.
"When can I get a colony?"
Yellow sighed, averted her gaze from the hologram screen in front of her towards Pink, and replied: "You continue to ask me this, Pink, yet I cannot understand why you expect an answer different from what I have already told you. You simply are not able to control a colony. That is all there is to say. Now leave me be and go play, I am very busy at the moment."
Pink couldn't believe it.
"Why am I unable to have a colony? I'm a diamond too! Why can't I use the powers that I was made to use? Diamonds are natural leaders!"
"Save it for White, my dear." Yellow said sarcastically, and pushed Pink away gently with the back of her gloved hand. Pink glared up at her with arms crossed, and said:
"Oke then, I will! Maybe White will listen to me, unlike you and Blue."
Yellow's eyes immediately widened and she turned around to look at Pink.
"Pink, you cannot possibly think that is a good idea! The most I have ever spoken to her was years ago and I only got in one word. She will not allow you to be so bold as to ask for one whole planet - solely for your own pleasure! Oh, yes, I forgot - that's all that matters to you. Fun." Yellow's worry immediately transformed into anger towards the little diamond. It was so strange, even to her, how that always happened when someone brought up White.
Pink's sulk grew to deep anger. This was always what happened when she asked for a planet - it wasn't fair at all. And why is Yellow so scared of White? It's like her whole mood changed when her name was so much as uttered. But what was still confusing to her was why she still kept asking, when she knew deep down; she would never get it, she would throw a tantrum, and the other diamonds would resent her more. And this cycle just kept going. And, as far as Pink was concerned, it would keep going forever. So she would have to live up to her promise and eventually ask White, whether Blue and Yellow approved or not.
"No, Yellow. I am important, and I should be able to do what I want, so I am going to ask White, and you can't stop me!!" Pink stomped her foot, almost knocking her Pearl off her feet.
"Darling, please don't throw another silly little fit. You and I both know that any effort to communicate with White ends with no gain. If I thought you would be capable of running a colony, I would give you one without hesitation. But I fear that you would only make a mess of it, make it all into some game or something. You just need to be more sensible." said Yellow, with great patience.
"Now, like I said, I am very busy! Pearl, distract her."
"Yes, my diamond." said Pink's Pearl, saluting.
"Come this way, my diamond! We have a party to plan!" smiled the Pearl.
"NO!!!!! Stop treating me like some random Homeworld gem!!" Pink was crying now, and she stormed out of the room with the Pearl running after.
Pink knew exactly where to find White. She approached her palanquin and yanked open the silver curtains.
"White! Can you give me a colony? Pleeeeaase?? Just a little one?" she begged, still in tears.
"Starlight, don't be silly! You know you aren't good enough to have a colony! Now, where is that little Pearl playmate of yours, hm?" White said, with a smile.
"I'm not good enough..." Pink whispered. "I can't believe you would say that. You...you just don't want me around! You don't even try to hide it!"
"Now now Pink, don't get upset, maybe we'll get you a new place to play with your Pearl instead? How about...a flower garden? Does that sound nice, my darling?" said White.
Pink just couldn't take it any more. She stepped outside the palanquin, back into the palace and, with her Pearl still standing beside her, she screamed. She screamed so loudly, all the windows in the room shattered. It happened again, and it was worse than before. She felt completely out of control, she just felt so angry, frustrated, ignored, hopeless - her tears flowed like waterfalls as she repeatedly punched the floor in utter despair.
What happened to the good times? She used to have such fun with the diamonds, singing, playing games and throwing parties. Why did none of this seem good anymore, why did she want her own planet so badly?
The little diamond cried for hours, until White ran into the room with Yellow, Blue and their Pearls.
"Pink, what are you doing to that Pearl? Cease this terrible noise at once, before you shatter every gem in Homeworld!" barked Yellow.
She was so lost in her own feelings and so hurt by what the other diamonds had said to her that Pink didn't realise her Pearl had been standing beside her the whole time. The Pearl was kneeling on the ground, trying to get up and comfort Pink, but she was too weak. Pink's screams were so loud and powerful that they had drained all of the Pearl's energy and damaged her physical form, as well as heavily cracking her gem.
Without speaking another word, White picked up the Pearl and left.
"Maybe we will find you another Pearl" whispered Blue, before leaving with Yellow.
Pink was left speechless. She couldn't believe that she had almost shattered her own Pearl. She didn't even know that she was there. She didn't realise that Pearls really would stay by the side of their diamonds, even if it was the diamond causing the destruction. Thinking about this made her want to cry even more. She felt like a monster. But she decided: if I cry, I may hurt even more gems, just like White said. If I want to get a colony, I can't be the diamond leader who throws tantrums and destroys gems when I don't get what I want.
