"Heyo!" Amethyst waved to Steven and Pearl as she and Garnet walked in the door. Steven's eyes lit up in happiness, and he went to hug his friends. "Amethyst's back, Garnet's back!" Steven smiled. Pearl loved how delighted he always was when they returned. Someday, when he's a little older, he could come with them. She knew that she would love having him around, but just felt like it would be dangerous for now. He was only eleven, after all. And she had to protect him at all costs.

"Hey, who's this?" Amethyst pointed at the Moon gem, who was still sitting next to Pearl.

"Oh, Amethyst, this is a new gem, she came here from the Moon. Her name is..." Pearl trailed off. She still didn't know this gem's name. "What should we call you?"

"Well, I am a Quartz, I think. But I don't really fit into that description. I don't know what I am. So you can call me whatever you want." she replied.

Amethyst looked at her for a while, then said "I know! We can call you Selenite. Since you're from the Moon, right? And you're all white and grey like that."

Selenite said her name multiple times, very quietly, trying out how it sounded. "I like it. Thank you, Amethyst. You know, I lived with a lot of Amethysts on the Moon, but none of them looked like you. Or were as nice as you..." the look on her face was a mix of thoughtful, uncomfortable and admiring.

Amethyst grinned. "Hah, you're not so bad yourself, moony." Pearl was not surprised that, within a few seconds of learning (and in this case making up) her name, Amethyst had found a weirdly cute nickname for Selenite.

Amethyst had a very playful, extroverted, and friendly personality. This meant that she was liked by almost everyone she met, which was a very good thing for someone who looked so different. For you see, it had not always been this way. When Amethyst emerged from a Kindergarten all those years ago, she was immediately deemed as unfit for her purpose as a soldier. She was small and couldn't lift heavy objects or run fast in training like the others. She was one of the very few gems that Pearl and Pink Diamond had left on Earth. When the gem war that she was meant to fight in was over, she joined the Crystal Gems and lived on the beach with Garnet, Rose and Pearl.

She had faced much discrimination in her life, but she was incredibly strong throughout despite her defect.

Pearl watched Selenite and Amethyst chatting. They were getting along great. Selenite seemed to be a great listener, she nodded patiently and asked questions as Amethyst talked away happily about seemingly everything. But the entire time, she seemed to be entirely captivated by Amethyst's almost effortless charm and everything she had to say.

Suddenly, Amethyst stood up and took her hands. "Selenite. I wanna fuse with you. I think we can make something amazing together. Whatcha think?"

Wow. That was fast. But of course, Amethyst always liked to cut to the chase with new acquaintances.

Selenite looked up at her, with her eyes wide. She placed her hands in Amethyst's, and they started to dance gracefully, but just a little clumsily on the part of Selenite. It was clear she had never fused before. Before long, both gems started to glow.

{poof}

"Ohhh, Steven, Pearl! Look at us – me!" The new fusion spoke. She had a smooth and clear voice, which was very calming to hear. Pearl and Steven were shocked. It was amazing! How had a bond that strong been created so quickly? It normally took years for fusion to work right. But in just under an hour, Amethyst and Selenite had fused into the most beautiful fusion that Pearl had ever seen (discounting of course, the fusion she had with Rose) .

"Now, for a name. What's in a name, anyways? An Amethyst, and a Selenite. Hmm." She lifted a hand in front of her face and outstretched her long fingers thoughtfully. "What else, but a Kunzite. How could I forget."

Steven gasped, "A Giant Woman!!!" . Kunzite patted his head.

"That's right, little Steven. But I guess I'm not really so giant. Both Amethyst and Selenite were quite small, really. However, that doesn't mean that I am in any way lesser." Kunzite produced a glowing orb from the gem on her navel, and pulled out a long whip from the gem on her chest. She fused the two items together. She took the whip, hit it on a broken floorboard, and it was immediately fixed.

Pearl, Garnet and Steven applauded as Kunzite bowed her head and unfused. Amethyst and Selenite looked at each other, amazed.

"I felt so strong, that fusion is amazing! I have never felt anything like that. Thank you so much Amethyst!" Selenite took Amethyst's hand and kissed it. Amethyst blushed.

"Yeah...I have never felt that smart in my life. You must be really wise, moony. And I loved fusing with you! You're really cool!" She picked up Selenite into her arms and kissed her, as they laughed and joked together.

Pearl watched them, she was so happy that the two defective Quartz had finally found the one who accepted them, understood them and loved them for who they were.

(This chapter didn't include much of  Steven, Pearl or Rose, but I thought it was quite important anyway and I really enjoyed writing it)
