I remember it clearly. It was shortly after my 15th birthday. I was Rayne Elizabeth Burton before BL/ind kidnapped me to become a scarecrow or Drac. I'm the only one who has ever escaped them. I ran, as fast as I could to get away from Battery City. I ran until I was damn near dead. I was found by my best friends Jess Jameson, who now goes by Toxic Storm, and Liz Callaway, who is now Radio Electric. Ever since BL/ind took over Battery City, life has been hell for all of us that were living there. I had somehow caught the eye of Korse. He's the one who kidnapped me shortly after my birthday in 2017. Now I go by Vengeance Halifax.
"Come here you little bitch, this is what you get for disobeying your elder Dracs." Korse had said after I spat in his eye because I didn't do my lesson. That was what happened right before I ran for good.
Now it's 2019 and Storm, Trick, and I are in the outskirts of Battery City. We're hiding in an old, abandoned city transit bus from Battery City. I'm sitting by a window, drawing on it with a sharpie while Storm and Trick were sleeping. I'm an insomniac due to all the trauma from BL/ind.
I heard a faint screaming outside and tried looking through the slightly tinted glass. I couldn't tell whether or not there was another Killjoy or if it was another herd of Dracs and Scarecrows that are going to try to exterminate us. I got down on my knees and crawled down to the door as quietly as I could. I peek out the clear window of the door. Fuck, another herd from Korse!
"Guys! Get up! There's another herd of Scarecrows coming our way!" I yelled at the girls and threw their ray guns at them. There was no time to spare. I pulled out my gun and ran outside to the nearest shack. I pulled my dark, curly hair back and slid my helmet on as Storm and Trick ran to the shack, ready for war. I peeked through a crack in the wall, sure enough, Korse was leading them. Fucking asshole hates me. The moment I ran he wanted me exterminated. I was on the Top 5 Most Wanted list at BL/ind under the four Fabulous Killjoys: Party Poison, Fun Ghoul, Jet Star, and Kobra Kid. All because I ran away they want me dead.
We took cover and started shooting at Korse and his Scarecrow crew started dropping like flies. Storm and Trick were knocked unconscious by two Scarecrows. I got so pissed that I jumped out of my hiding spot to go kill the bitch by my own hand. I started sprinting towards him, ray gun at my holster, and screaming. I pulled my ray gun out and started shooting at him. I hit him 13 times; 3 times in the leg, 2 times in his shoulder, 4 times in his stomach and 4 times in the heart and lungs. Before he went down, he shot me in my shoulder, which caused me to blackout.
All I heard after that was another man's voice....
