When they pulled up to the tower, Peter groaned. He'd hoped the drive would take longer than usual.
"Oookay everyone," Mr. Harrington stood up, "I need you all to be on your best behavior during this trip. Gather up your stuff and line up in an orderly fashion outside the building."
Everyone nodded and got off the bus. They entered the lobby after a quick headcount, everyone looking around and in complete awe of the lobby. Peter snickered at the thought of how they would react to the rest of the building.
Mr. Harrington walked up to the front desk and checked in. Peter recognized the intern, Kassidy. They had worked together quite a few times. He guessed she would be their tour guide.
"Alright, everyone." Kassidy said, immediately quieting the group down. "Welcome to the Avengers Tower! Before we get started, I'm going to pass out your security badges and brief you on the rules as everyone goes through security. Mr. Harrington, would you pass these out please?" After a short pause, she continued. "You must keep them visible at all times or our head of security, Happy, will get really mad and have you escorted out. You all have Zeta level passes, the second to lowest level."
Flash's hand shot up, "What are all of the levels?"
"Good question," Kassidy said "There are six levels, each named after a letter of the Greek alphabet. Alpha is the highest level, for the avengers, Pepper Potts, Nick Fury and some other high-up SHIELD agents. Beta is for the rest of SHIELD and the board members of both SHIELD and Stark Industries. Delta is for head interns and all employees. Gamma is for all interns, tour guides and secretaries. Zeta is for the higher level tours and press, like you guys. And finally, theta is for one-day visits or tours. Now, everyone will go through the scanner like this."
As Kassidy walked through and scanned her pass, FRIDAY's voice rang through the lobby. "Kassidy Moore, gamma level, no unauthorized items."
Flash went through first, "Eugene Thompson, zeta level, no unauthorized items." Those words were repeated about 14 times before it came to Peter, "Peter Parker, delta level, no unauthorized weapons. Welcome back, Peter. Would you like me to alert Boss that you are here?"
"No, thanks, Fri. I'm on a school trip." Peter made a mental note to thank Pepper for changing his pass. He only wished she could have made him a lower level, but understood why she didn't.
"Alright, have fun!" FRIDAY replied.
Peter hurried back to where his friends were standing as Kassidy ushered everyone into the elevator.
"First up, we will be taking a tour of the intern labs. Try your best to not disturb them too much, as they are working very hard on important projects, but I'm sure they'll be happy to answer any questions you have. After that, if there's an open lab, we'll have a robotics competition."
The elevator binged right as she finished talking, alerting the group that they had reached the 9th floor. Everyone shuffled out of the elevator and into the first lab. Immediately, everyone started whispering about how amazed they were with the projects the interns were working on. No one was hesitant to ask questions.
Before Peter could start walking around, an intern he was friendly with came over to him.
"Hey Peter!"
"Hey Anthony! What's going on?"
"Not much, but I was wondering if you could help me with something." At Peter's mumbled agreement, he continued, "So I was working on this software for the updates to the watches and I noticed FRIDAY wasn't working. Do you think you could look over my coding?"
"Yeah, just show me what you think might be the problem."
They headed over to Anthony's desk, chatting about the same updates Anthony just mentioned. Neither of them noticed the stares Peter was getting from his teammates and their teacher, who was asking Kassidy about the plans for their tour.
"So after lun-" He stopped speaking abruptly after seeing Peter typing on Anthony's computer. He rushed over to where the two teens were sitting. "Mr. Parker, what do you think you're doing? You're taking this fake internship thing way too far. "
"What?" Anthony turned away from Peter, looking extremely confused
"I am so sorry for his behavior. He has this whole fantasy about interning here and clearly he is delusional." Mr. Harrington looked as if his head would blow off.
"What do you mean? Peter was just helping me fix this code. I was having trouble with the AI system on the new updates all interns are working on and he knows the coding by heart."
"Wh-what?" Now everyone, the entire team, Kassidy and the other interns working, were staring at the three men. "I'm sorry for my behavior, everyone. Please ignore me."
Everything was much calmer after that, with no big outbursts or accidents. The team unfortunately did not get to the robotics competition before it was time for the next activity.
