(Y/N)'s POV
I drove through Washington with my two kids, Thomas and Annie. Both were easily distracted, whether by the trees we zoomed past or the funny-looking clouds.
It was a long trip, and both were getting tired. I had been driving for hours from Orgen to here, Forks.
It was a quiet, logging town, much better than the loud city we used to live in. Our house used to sit near a railroad that seemed to prefer to make their trips at night to scare Thomas and Annie.
As our last rest stop before we went to our new home, we stopped by a diner. Thomas and Annie quickly exited the car and waited for me in front of the car.
Both antsy and excited to explore a new place with hopes of good air conditioning. I had to admit to being hopeful, too; our car's ac had broke two hours back.
"Come on! Come on!" They went around my side and started to pull on my hands.
"Alright, alright!" I chuckled at their instance. We went into the diner and got seated. Thomas decided to be chatty with the waitress, a black woman with a name tag that said, Cora.
"Hi, I'm Thomas! And I'm going to turn 5 in two days!" He held up five fingers to Cora's face.
"I'll keep that in mind." She chuckled at my little boy's excitement.
"We are moving here today." I quickly explained as Thomas continued to spew random facts about dinosaurs and various things.
"Well, welcome. We don't get new faces often." She gave a welcoming smile as she left with our order.
"Thomas, Annie, what do you think of Forks?"
"Amazing!" Thomas enthusiastically patted the table. Annie only nodded, fiddling with her stuffed bunny, Fred's arms. Her black hair acting like a short curtain.
"After this, we will go to our new house, and you two will have your own rooms." I watched for their reactions.
Thomas' smile got impossibly wider and he swung his legs harder, occasionally hitting a table leg. "Yay!"
Annie, on the other hand, did not seem to be as excited. She stopped playing with Fred. She avoided looking at Thomas and hurried to sit closer to me. "Do I have to have a room alone?" She asked me to lean down to her and whispered to me.
"Oh, honey, you will be just fine. If you want you can stay in my room for a little while. Would you like that?" I whispered back to her. She simply nodded to me.
"Here's your drinks and food." Cora quickly put our food down and went for the door as the bell chimed.
I looked over and it was a police officer and a pale teenage girl. I turned back to my business at our table.
All three of us are tired and need to rest as soon as we get home. "Do you guys want to rest when we get home? You two have to go to daycare tomorrow anyway." Both nodded.
Thomas must have tired himself out from his excitement earlier, and Annie was tired as soon as she sat down. "We will be home soon."
Our house was only partly furnished. The living room was one of those rooms. The couch was long and navy in color, with a dark wood coffee table in front of it.
"What do you think about sleeping on the couch for the night?"
Annie only nodded and dragged her feet to the left side of the couch and crashed there.
"Well, that's a yes, then." I chuckled and adjusted my hold on Thomas. "Let's get you to the couch too, Tommy."
I sat down in the middle and gently placed him on the right side. My eyes drifted shut with no further delay.
"Wakey, wakey!" Both of them chanted. It didn't deter me until one of them stepped on me.
"Ow!" My eyes snapped open. "Okay, okay, I'm awake!"
I sat up, holding the culprit that stepped on me, Thomas. "We need to get you two ready for daycare in two hours. How about we unpack a bit?"
I gave the kids two boxes of their things each, and I brought a box of toiletries and my clothes. Time flew by we unpacked and got ready for daycare.
"Alright, you two be good while at daycare, and after, we can have ice cream." I crouched to their level outside of the classroom.
Thomas was really excited to make friends and play like usual. "We will, we will!" He kept shifting from foot to foot, jumping, and spinning.
Annie held onto me with one hand and had Fred in the other. Her eyes were glued to the floor or me. "You'll do fine. It'll be just like playing at home with Tommy, okay?" I whispered.
"Alright, have a good time! I love you!" I called to them as they went to the door. Tommy held onto Annie's hand.
A woman with long, dark brown hair and a dark blue dress held the door for them. She greeted them as I left. "Hello, I'm Esme. What are your names?"
Esme's POV
I would be working at the daycare for a month because they needed someone to cover for a staff member.
The last two children that came to daycare were a little boy and girl. The little girl held a stuffed bunny that was faded blue, almost white. The little boy held her other hand.
"Hello, I'm Esme. What are your names?" I closed the door behind them and crouched to their height.
"Hi! I'm Thomas!" the dark-haired boy stuck his thumb against his chest.
The little girl didn't seem interested in talking as she kept her eyes on her bunny. 'Maybe, she would be better talking to me by herself.'
"Thomas, why don't you go ahead and play?" I asked him.
"Okay!" He ran off and started talking to a blonde boy named Will.
"Hi, could I know your name? And what's your little friend's name?" I whispered to her.
"Annie," She whispered. "His name is Fred."
