Esme's POV

"This dinner party went nicely." The plates were collected in my hands while Carlisle took cups. (Y/N), Annie and Thomas had left about thirty minutes ago.

I longed for the chance to have them come back over as time went by. Now that they have gone, it's quiet in the house. It's like a bird's nest after all the babies have grown up and left home here.

"Yes, it was a nice party." Carlisle started to wash the dishes in sudsy water.

"I already hope they can come back sometime soon. Don't you think it gives the house more purpose?" My eyes wandered around the house.

I have thought about how this house doesn't live to its full potential. None of us need to sleep or eat human food. But (Y/N) and their little children need to do that to survive. They could easily bring this house more life and purpose by just being here.

It was more lively in the hour that they had been here. Like a flower blossoming, blooming and radiating life throughout the house. This house would not have seen more color. But now that they're gone, that flower has wilted, leaving behind petals in the shape of the little pink bunny drawing that Annie made on the fridge.

"Yes, otherwise, everything here would collect dust. We have no need for them." He grinned, looking at me over his shoulder.

"Thomas and Annie are adorable, too. They seem to really like me." A smile grew on my face, remembering the two running to hug me.

"They do seem to." He smiled faintly when I rested a hand on his back.

"Thomas has told me that the ac and heater is broken in (Y/N)'s car," I told him. "If only we can fix it for them." My voice trailed off.

"Yes, we have the funds to fix it. It's just would they want us to do that." Carlisle turned to face me entirely. His hands are resting on my hips, holding me close like a dear lover.

"What do you think of (Y/N) and their kids?" I mumbled close to him.

"They're a nice little family. (Y/N) could use some help to get away from stress. It's not good for their health."

Edward's POV

A book rested in my hands as soft classical music filled my room. The dinner party that Esme started on a whim has ended. She loved this family like a love bird for (Y/N), accepting the children like her own.

I could hear every one of these thoughts, even now. She liked this tired parent who was punished by life to have such a stressful living situation. They looked like they could sleep like the dead if they got more comfortable.

What made me more curious about them is that, unlike the countless other people in this town, I can't hear them. Their thoughts are hidden away from my knowledge like it's in a lock box thrown out to sea. I wouldn't find out a single word of their thoughts.

"Edward?" Esme knocked at my door lightly, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Come in," I let her in, knowing the question at the forefront of her mind.

"Edward," She slipped into the room. "What did you think of our guests at the dinner party tonight?" She wanted to know my opinion, like it would change her mind.

It's a question that would either help or annoy the festering obsessive thoughts in her head. She wanted to have (Y/N) live in the house with us, even if it would be like throwing out their family to the vultures.

"(Y/N) is strange. I can't read their thoughts, unlike everybody else." I submitted only that for an answer to her question.

"You can't?" Her eyes widened briefly. Questions filled her head, wondering what could lead to this possibility.

"We shouldn't be getting this close." I ignored her question to remind her of what we needed to be doing.

Alice's POV

"Alice? Come down here for a moment." Esme stepped out onto the balcony.

"Okay, Esme." I sat up on the tree, getting my back off of Jasper from leaning on him. "I'll be right back, Jasper." Stealing a kiss before leaving him for the balcony.

"Jasper, you can come too." She backed up to give him space to jump down.

"What is it, Esme?" I listened to the thunk behind me from Jasper coming down beside me.

"I wanted to know what you two thought of (Y/N) and their two children." She asked with a serious face.

Before my eyes, I watched a scene come before my eyes. The little family from before sitting in the house, laughing, happy. Everyone is more happy to have them here, like a complete family.

"Alice, what do you see?" Jasper's voice came to me, his cold touch on my arm and back.

"(Y/N)...they're happy in the house with us." I watched the vision slowly fade before my eyes. "I think if everything kept going as it is, it'll happen."

Esme smiled warmly before my eyes. This is the happiest that I've seen her after one of my visions.

"Thank you, Alice." She nodded before leaving the balcony without another word.

Rosalie's POV

"Rosalie? Emmett?" Esme slipped into the room. "What did you think of (Y/N) and their children?"

I paused before sitting up to my full height. "Are we going to be pretending that nothing bad will happen?" I felt annoyance grow.

They were nice enough, but if they found out about us, it'd be over. Everything would go downhill if they told anyone. It'll ruin our family.

"Rosalie, don't act like this," Esme told me sternly.

"What were you planning, Esme? Going official with a single parent?" Emmett teased Esme with a cocky grin on his face. His arm came around my shoulder.

I loved those children who came by, sweet and innocent. But I pushed that aside; that's too much of a risk to the family. My eyes narrowed on Emmett, elbowing him for his words.
