Well, this is the time that everyone has been warning me about. My first shifting month. This time on our eighteenth birthday is really dangerous for shifters, especially females. Apparently you have all the males on your tail trying to forcibly mate you! That is why it is of the upmost importance that you find your mate as quickly as possible. And then there is the bit where you partially turn into an animal, usually a predator of some kind. Some say it hurts like hell, others say it's like breaking free from the imprisonment of a human body and becoming your true self. I am about to find out first hand what it's really like.
Today is my 18th birthday and the start of hell. My parents are happy because they hope that my mate is part of a squad because then I can be happy. Life as a rogue isn't fun, being chased and hunted all your life isn't really my thing. The only way into a squad is to be born or mated into one. Unfortunately for my parents they were both rogues. I just hope that I get to shift into a real predator so that I can protect myself. A big cat perhaps? Now that is what many call a real shift.
