Jade placed a finger on my chin to lift it up, her dark eyes stared deeply into mine as her long, red nails grazed my skin, itching to scratch. On the outside, her composure remained calm, but her words were just as sharp as a knife.
"Ruben is one of the most powerful and richest men in France. He has an immense fortune and incredibly high standards of living as well. What I will never understand is why he settles for low-life peasant girls as yourself to take care of our perfect children. You obviously cannot be living alongside us. You're a stain on our precious name." she snapped.
I pulled away from her grasp, taking two steps back. She still stood her ground, staring me down as if I were a dangerous predator. I wasn't going to let a hypocritical woman ruin the biggest opportunity of my life. How Ruben was able to marry such a snake was beyond me.
"Honey, the name was stained the moment Ruben put a ring on that finger."
.....
"Think about it. What makes Barbie so special?" asked Albert, picking up one of Oliver's dolls from the ground to examine its features closely.
I was still on my knees, putting away all the scattered books I could find on the shelves. I looked up to see what Albert was doing. I thought for a second about the answer to his question.
"Because she has a career in almost every field possible?" I answered, doubting my own answer.
Albert let out a small laugh, stroking the blonde hair of the barbie. He was, in a way, amused.
"Good answer, but no. Barbie is famous because everyone wants to be like her. Pretty, elegant, with her own money, kind, funny, attractive... Let's just say that she is the complete opposite of what Jade is."
It was the first time that someone in Ruben's family mentioned the fact that Jade was an absolute monster and a bad person. I looked up, my eyes filled with intrigue. Albert simply played with the doll's blonde hair.
"Oh darling, I spend so much time organising my father's projects that I never have time to start mine. I have a project in mind that I think will benefit everyone." he mentioned.
I looked up again, fixing my gaze on the feminine man sitting on his nephew's bed. He looked at me with a daring smile.
"I call it Project Barbie, and it's my plan to get rid of Jade once and for all."
