III - Comfort Zone

-

"They're gone! They took mommy and daddy. Ailey what are we gonna do? I'm scared." The little boy with the same eyes as Ailey cried, he was so red now and sweating. She stood there frozen and couldn't move. But she knew she needed to, so she kneeled down to face him.

"There there, we're gonna find them, believe me, Ailey's gonna find them and we'll all be together." She struggled hard to say it straight and not to break her voice and cry. She pulled him and hugged him so tight.

The only comfort zone that she has was the frail and fragile shoulders of this child, and she couldn't afford to lose it. So she left him where he's safe.

The scene moved into a smaller house, behind the house was the creek, connecting to the next town. Woods and plants, bushes and trees surrounded the place. It was far from the technology driven houses today. Different places, but the same crying face of a child.

"Why? Why are you leaving me too? Am I a bad kid?" He asked her with the most pitiful face he could ever make and it broke her heart, but she knew this is where he's safe.

"No. You're a really good kid. Big sis loves you the most, that's why you have to wait for me, cause I will surely come back and get you. With mom and dad, so smile now okay? Smile." She said to him and patted his head.

Suddenly, the child was slowly being pulled away from her, and she saw him, crying and tears falling down his face. And then someone pushed him on the creek. She shouted and ran to get him, but there's no voice coming out, no matter how fast she runs, she can't advance. She's just watching him drown and cry for his big sister until his head appeared no more.

"Evan." Ailey opened her eyes and she felt her face all wet. She touched it and wiped the tears from her face. Then she breathed deeply and looked sidewards. Pair of dark brown eyes were looking straight at her, widened and showed worry. They were staring at each other for several seconds till Alex looked away. "You know you're creeping me out. You were here the whole time, watching me rain tears on your pillow?" She chuckled and shook her head.

"I was creeped out too, your tears just started to stream like a faucet, but you were making no sounds at all. The hell?" He also shook his head, he took the bowl on the table, and judging from the moist of the bowl, it was still hot. "Still feel cold?" He asked her. "I thought you were dead."

"Oh, that's why you seemed so grim." She quipped at him, still the sarcastic smirk on her face.

"Dream on. The men who came after you won't stop until they get you." He handed her the bowl. "You had a fever even before you froze there. Eat it."

Ailey wanted to smile but she restrained herself to do so, he might throw her a nice mocking remark. She was wrong to doubt him. Like Shiran, he had kindness in him, just.. Jerky.

He knew what he can do, he knew what he's supposed to do. He trusts no one, he strives to survive. The same badness Ailey has.

"You think they won't get you too?" She told him as she quietly blew the soup to cool. The hot food ran down her stomach and heated her up, it was a good feeling after everything she's been to since the other day.

"Well not unless if I hide here." Alex said but thought the opposite. He was sure he couldn't stay here any longer. Their house was big and useful, some blasting group would come to take it.

Ailey looked outside and saw the sun in its full brilliance, telling her that it's just past lunch. She got out of the bed and stood up, having Alex eye and raise an eyebrow on her. "I'm leaving in an hour."
