Chapter 1 - New guy at school

The last bell rang, as I walked into my first class of the year. I scanned the room, looking for my friends, but my eyes stopped on the first boy I saw. 

I've never seen him before, so I guess he's new. He sat next to a group of boys at the back of the classroom, near the windows. They seemed to be in a really deep conversation. 

I stared at the new guy, taking in his features. He had brown hair and a fringe. He wore a graphic T-shirt and black skinny jeans. 

I broke my stare when the boy sitting next to him, Calum, called me over, "Hey Talli!" 

As I walked over to them, one of my friends, Samantha, waved at me and patted on the seat next to her. "Sorry Cal, Samantha needs me." I said jokingly. Calum shrugged and turned back to Luke and Michael, who were good friends of ours.

"Morning Sam," I said when I sat down. 

"Who were you staring at?" She asked suspiciously as 

"I don't even know him! I was just looking." I smiled. I was curious about who he was, he looked kind of...nice. Even so, I haven't met him yet, I shouldn't even be thinking about him.

The teacher came in the room, and everyone stopped talking to hear what he had to say.

"Good morning class, my name is Mr. Harrison, and I will be your English teacher for this year. Today we will be doing some brainstorming for your first project, a novella. You are going to work in pairs. Let's begin!"

Mr. Harrison walked around the room, pairing people together. Since Samantha and I were seated directly behind Calum and the new guy, he paired Samantha with the new guy, and me with Calum. 

Samantha and Calum switched seats to work in our pairs, and as Calum sat down, I looked over to Samantha and her partner. It was sort of a bummer really, even though I Calum is one of my best friends ever, I wanted to be paired with the new guy more so that I could get to know him, or his name at least.

As Calum and I started to brainstorm ideas, we came up with some dirty and kinky ones, and soon we were laughing so much my stomach hurt. Every now and then I would glance at Samantha and her partner, but I shook the curious thoughts out of my head and concentrated on my work.

By the end of the lesson, Calum and I were in deep conversation, so when the bell rang, we didn't even notice. I packed up my stuff and with Samantha, we left to go to our next class, which was art. It was cool that Samantha and I were interested in the same subjects, so that we had the same schedule everyday. It feels great to have your best friend with you at all times.

The rest of the school day was fine. I found out that Samantha was in all of my classes and that Calum, Luke, Michael and Ashton(I finally found out his name) were in most of my classes as well.

At lunch, Samantha and a bunch of my friends sat outside on the grass. Calum and the guys usually hung out with us, but I couldn't find them today. I sat between Tammy and Samantha, with Eric and Kasha in front of us - they are such love birds. Halfway through lunch, Calum, Luke, Michael and Ashton came over to us with big smiling faces. When they sat down, Calum asked, "Guess what!?"

Everyone looked at the four beaming boys standing next to us.

"Ashton joined the band!" All of them said at the same time.

Samantha was confused, "That's cool, but why?"

"Yeah, why? You guys just met Ashton..."I said.

Luke answered, "Oh come on, it isn't that weird to let someone you just met join your band! People do it all the time," He was getting way too excited, "Besides, we don't have a drummer yet, and our first gig is coming soon. Ashton is actually really good. You should see him play when we have band practice sometime."  

"Sure, that'll be interesting." I replied.

Tammy spoke up, "Are you still doing covers?"

Calum replied, "Well, we're thinking of doing more than that, but we'll figure it out later."

"Whatever you guys are gonna do, you'll know that I'll have your back." I said just as the bell rang.

When I got home, all I did was think about Ashton and the other guys. I wanted to get to know him but I didn't get the chance. Maybe i'll get his attention tomorrow at school.
