Weeks passed and Gena and Greyson were settling into their new routine nicely. Greyson got restless after the first two weeks and went to the Sunshine pack to offer his help to Alpha Brady a few hours a day. It gave Gena some time to herself which she also appreciated. Gena spent most of her alone time exploring the beach and going to the open air market that was about a twenty minute drive away from their house.

Gena was walking through the market with a large basket to carry her purchases. She liked to stop at the produce stands for fresh fruit and the bakery's stand for fresh bread. The smell of fresh flowers lured her towards a stand provided by a nearby nursery. She smiled at the vendor and started sorting through the bouquets of colorful flowers. She learned pretty early on that Greyson loved the smell of fresh flowers. She thought it was a little prissy, but there wasn't much she wouldn't do to make her mate happy.

"I'll take these." Gena smiled at the vendor, motioning towards the bouquets of roses, daisies, and tulips.

"Great choices, ma'am." The woman smiled, wrapping the bouquets up with parchment paper and handing them back to Gena.

"Thank you." Gena nodded before continuing through the market.

"Well, well, well, look at you. You've gone domestic, sister." Gabriel chuckled as he appeared behind Gena. She sighed loudly but didn't bother to look towards her brother.

"What do you want, Gabriel?"

"Just checking in. It's been two months since you left. I would have thought you'd be staked by now." He joked bitterly. Gena rolled her eyes,

"You're an idiot." She scoffed.

Gabriel grabbed her arm and yanked her to a stop. She hissed at him, her eyes flashing red.

"You'll do well to remember who you are talking to." He warned her, his fangs glistening threateningly in the sun.

"And who would that be? The would be king?" She snapped, not at all afraid of her older brother.

Gabriel yanked her painfully towards him but she reacted quickly, dislodging her arm from his grip and shoving him away.

"I owe you nothing, Gabriel. Leave me alone." She hissed.

"I'm giving you one chance, Gena. Leave that pup now and I'll let you back into the kingdom." Gabriel said in a low voice.

"It's not up to you. Father has already made his decree." Gena said,

"If I have to overthrow Father to ensure that you do not return, so be it." Gena's eyes widened at Gabriel's confession.

"You wouldn't." She whispered, "Not even you are that stupid."

It was no surprise that Gabriel had been chomping at the bit to be named king, but the Vampire King showed no signs of stepping down. He promised Gabriel the throne one day, but there was no telling how many more centuries would pass before it was that day. Gena always suspected that the Vampire King would only step down upon his death and not a moment before.

"Father's reign has gone on for long enough. I have followers who are waiting for my command." Greyson looked smug.

"Do what you want, Gabriel, it's no longer my concern. If you are the Vampire King I'll have no desire to return anyway." Gena shook her head at her brother.

She didn't want to believe him but Gena knew that Gabriel was unpredictable. If he says he has followers and a plan to take the throne then Gena wouldn't be naive enough to doubt him.

"You are going to live to regret this decision." Gabriel said, grabbing her arm and pulling her towards him aggressively.

"Not likely." She glared at him, gritting her teeth together in fury.
