Can't help Who you Fall in Love with

Prologue

Sonny has been doing everything that he possibly can to protect those that he cares about and that goes especially for Emily. He has come to rely on her a lot especially since he checked his ex - wife into a mental hospital so she could receive the professional help and medical care that she needs after suffering from a nervous breakdown.

He hasn't been able to remember the last time he had been through this but he was hoping that by having Carly committed to Roselawn that she would realize that she won't be able to come and go as she pleases and that he meant it when he told her that they weren't going to be getting back together.

He was hoping that he and Resse were going to make it work only for him to learn that she had cheated on him with none other than his brother. He could forgive you for almost everything except for being unfaithful. That and being lied are two things that he can never forgive.

Once Reese's funeral was over Emily and Sonny left the cemetery and went back to Greystone.

Sonny looks over at Emily.

"I hope everything went okay when you took the boys over to visit with Carly."

Emily looks at him as she gives him a small smile.

"No comment."

Sonny sighs in frustration.

"What did she do?"

Emily returns the look as well as the smile before she replies back.

"It really doesn't matter, Sonny."

Sonny reaches out his hands so as to take her hands into his all the while looking right into her eyes the entire time.

"Emily, it matters to me. You matter to me. You always have. You know that. Now, tell me what has you so upset."

Emily looks at him before she looks down at their hands still being a perfect fit after all this time.

"Nothing. Carly and I got into it and then the boys and I left only for me to realize that I forgot Morgan's hat so I went back to get it and that's when she accused me of falling in love with you."

Sonny looks at her.

"Are you falling in love with me, Emily?"

Emily hears his words as she looks right into his eyes.

She takes a deep breath before she replies back.

"Yes, I'm falling in love with you. You don't have to say anything. I know that you don't return my feelings. I mean how could you when you were just in a brief relationship with Reese."

Sonny looks at her giving her a dimpled smile as he reaches out taking her hands in his.

"Emily, you have been there for the kids and especially for me ever since Michael was charged for AJ's murder. You have truly been there for us and I don't know where we would have been without you. What I'm trying to say is that I'm falling in love with you, too."

Emily looks at him smiling.

"Please tell me that I'm not dreaming."

Sonny smiles at her giving her a glimpse of his dimples. 

"Want me to prove it to you?"

Emily looks back at him with a raised eyebrow.

"How?"

"Look up at where we're standing."

Emily looks up to see that they are standing under the mistletoe.

"You know what this means."

Sonny smiles at her as he gently steps closer and cups her face in his hands before he gently leans into her kissing her softly on her lips.

Emily returns the kiss as she wraps her arms around his neck as the kiss soon begins to turn more intense.
