i found my usual seat right next to the pens box they practice for a bit, jack skates over to me and waves, i wave back and he throws a puck over the glass to me, i catch it.

i turn it over and there's his name and a little heart drawn on it in silver sharpie. i look up and smile at him, he smiles back and skates away.

in the first period Malkin gets a goal so it's 1-0 pens. the period ends the same.

jack fell a few times, each time i got scared he woudl be hurt but he always popped back up like it was nothing.

The next goal in the second period was from jack he pointed at me the second it went it.

By the end of the second period 3 more goals were made, one for pens and 2 for devils, so the score was 3-2 devils.

In the last period jack got another goal and pointed to me before. when the game ended it was 4-2 devils.

i texted jack that i would meet him outside the devils locker room after i talked to my dad.
he texted me saying "perfect, i'll be there" shortly after i watched him enter the locker room.

i went and waited in the pens locker room. my dad was the first one out. "good job dad!" he ignored my compliment.

"glad your boyfriend got 2 goals?" he said back. i love my dad more that anything but he sure is cranky after losing. "he's not my boyfriend" i say "your wearing his shirt right now ava" he says. i ignore it. "dad me and jack are gonna go get some food, ill be back later tonight" he said back "okay, be safe. love you" "we're just getting food, love you too" i say back.

i walk out of the locker room and over to the door of the devils. jack isn't there yet so i text him.

ava: i'm out here whenever your ready:)

jack: i'll be out soon, im just getting out of the shower. i don't wanna be smelly for our date

ava: oki doki, can we stop at my place so i can put nicer clothes on?

jack: ouch, the hughes jersey not good enough for you crosby🥲

ava: your wearing dress clothes i can't be underdressed and i plan to buy my own hughes jersey.

jack: you can keep that one, i have back ups.

ava: are you sure?? i don't want you to have to pay for a replacement

jack: 100% now stop texting me so i can hurry up and come see you

i didn't realize this was a date date. i thought we were just getting food but i suppose that qualifies as a date. he called it a date. jack hughes wants to go on a date with me!

after a few minutes jack comes out in black dress pants and a white button up and his hockey bag over his shoulder and jacket over his other arm.
i think for a minute then i decided fuck it. let's be bold.

"hi handsome" i say when he sees me, his face instantly moves into a huge smile. "Hi gorgeous" he says. "So rowdy, we're are we going?" i ask. he giggles "it's a surprise, follow me" i follow behind him to his car.

"get in" he says "what are u kidnapping me?" i say "with that attitude i'm gonna take u back to big Crosby, and last time we chat you didn't seem the happiest with him" i stutter for a moment then get in the passenger seat. he laughs at me.

"so are you gonna tell we're we are going now?" i ask "hmm nope." he says "and why not?" i push.
"because i told u it's a suprise dummy" he says putting his hand on my left thigh, driving with one hand now.
