🕊️🕊️🕊️
KARUBE WOULD be lying if he said he didn't miss you. he knew ahead of time allowing the two of you to separate on your own journeys would allow a series of depressing feelings to fall over him, but the blond didn't expect himself to feel this lonely. he knew it was best for you to not have him pulling you down, but he couldn't help but wish he was still with you. the memories of you laughing at his jokes, causing trouble, eating ramen at midnight, screaming song lyrics, dancing in the rain and forgetting all your troubles seemed to be stuck in his brain; memories he found himself constantly replaying.
but even in a place as depressing and gloomy as the borderlands, you and karube still managed to have a great time. that was until just a few nights prior to now- where karube, shibuki, chota and arisu participated in a game that resulted in the death of everyone besides the blond. after hearing the news, a wave of emptiness fell over you- clouding your thoughts and having you questioning your self-worth.
karube felt the same, but somehow still put on a brave face for you. this was barely noticed by you, your brain too scrambled to care about anything at the moment. this resulted in a fight between the two of you, and in the blink of an eye- you were gone. this had only just recently hit karube: you were gone, and you weren't coming back. and neither were arisu and chota. so (eventually) he pulled himself up, deciding to participate in a nearby game
he lazily stumbled out of his bed, taking a few minutes clear his thoughts and smoke a cigarette before leaving the abandoned apartment he and you had been living in. he then made his way to a game inside an abandoned amusement park.
this game was bigger, allowing more participants to join. there were about thirty participants, making the waiting area crowded. this didn't help karube at all, giving him a headache and feeling of annoyance at the random people accidentally brushing up against him every few moments.
eventually the game started, the rules being something along the lines of that you had to kill a series of animals scattered across the amusement park. he sighed audibly, waiting for others to leave the waiting area to take a moment to clear his thoughts alone. that was until he recognized an unforgettable orange hawaiian shirt and black baggy pants. karube's eyes widened, his eyebrows raising at the figure just a few feet in front of him.
he whispered something to himself, something that didn't go unnoticed by the girl in front of him. she turned, karube's eyes widening even more. he was expecting a lot from the game, but not to see you in front of him, hair tied back with a look of determination replacing your once depressed and tired look.
"y/n . . . ?" karube said a few moments after silence between the two of you. in those few moments, you had given him a look telling him all he needed to know: that you missed him too.
suddenly, a loud BEEP! interrupted karube, a cage opening revealing a number of furious and hungry tigers. you moved without second thought, pulling karube with you. as the two of you ran, you noticed karube constantly looking back at the animals.
"don't look behind you," you told him sternly. he nodded, the two of you sharing a meaningful glance that you soon broke.
you saw a tent in the distance, pulling karube inside with you for you to hide until the coast was clear. "were you listening to the rules?" you asked him, pulling your eyes away from the dissipating animals to look into your eyes- your hand on his arm.
he chuckled a bit. "i was a little distracted."
you sighed, giving him a look that told karube you were all right. he smiled a bit, flashing you a smirk that you couldn't help but smile at.
"you haven't changed at all," you said between chuckles.
a calm silence that was oddly comforting occured between the two of you as you sat beside him. "i really missed this," you admitted, breaking the silence.
"really?" karube said out of disbelief. in all honesty, karube assumed you didn't want anything to do with him. a smile -a real one- tugged his lips up, one that couldn't help but make you smile as well.
he looked up at you to see you already looking at him, but this time, you kept your eyes on him. you studied his face for a bit, realizing you missed him more than you thought. you leaned towards him, your lips finally meeting his.
the kiss didn't last forever, much to your disappointment, but your frown didn't last. you soon heard an automated voice that told you the two of you lived another day, allowing the you and karube to leave hand-in-hand.
"that game sure was quick, huh?" you said as the two of you left the tent, only to see something that surprised the both of you.
a large group wielding countless guns and knives of all kinds stood in front of you, confident and determined looks causing you to gulp nervously and audibly.
"you gonna move or what, princess?" said a male with silky black hair, a smirk tugging the man's lips up.
you then noticed everyone in the group was wearing a bracelet, confusing both you and karube- who noticed it as soon as he left the tent.
"what's with the bracelets?" you decided to ask the male, taking a bold step forward.
the man was surorised by this, his eyebrows raising slightly. "you really wanna know, little girl?" the man asked with a chuckle, glancing at the blond who was now between you and the man.
you merely nodded, a smirk telling the black-haired man both you and the blond had potential.
"think they have the balls?" the silky haired man asked the man to his left- a buffer man with shaved hair.
the shaved man's eyes had flickered over to the blond, thinking for a moment. "you were both from tag," he stated, eyes flickering between the two of you. you nodded, karube following with the same head movement. the man nodded back. "i'm aguni. this is niragi," he gestured with his eyes to the silky haired man.
niragi chuckled. "guess that's a yes. follow us, lovebirds," he said with a final smirk, shoving past the two of you.
you and karube shared a look once you were both behind the rest, giving him a shrug before catching up to them with a smile.
