Last Wave

chapter 7

"Alright girls lets load up into the van, come one," Manu ushers us one by one into the blue company van putting all of our surf stuff and bags into the truck

Summer and Oakley in the back with Bohdi and Poppy in the middle of the van as Manu drives all of then down to Jackson Bay, Oakley turns on home videos to keep her entertained for the long drive

She smiles as summer pokes her shoulder "Do you think I could watch, I left my ear buds at home. And those two are kind of out like lights,"

Oakley looks at her and nods giving her on of her AirPods "Its old videos of my mum and I," Summer nods and scoots closer to Lee

"Oakley get back here!" Aria Evans is chasing after the child version of Oakley on the beach, her dads laugh filling the back ground

"Cant mum the waves are calling my name," Lee runs into the water and then screen is filled with Arias worried face making Summer and Lee laugh

The camera then moves to seven year old Oakley catching a wave and doing a half pipe "Oakley Rae get back her now!" her mom tries to fake anger but you could tell she was full of love as her kid runs to her

"Did you see it! Did you see me!" Her mom laughs but nods and pulls her into a hug

She shakes her head "I sure did bug,"

Oakley smiles as Poppy shoots her head over the seat "Wanna listen to some music? We're coming up the the boys soon,"

The four of them all agree and start blasting music with Manu joining in ever other lyric, as they come upon the boys they roll down the windows and start to scream and laugh while trying to sing

They calm down after a couple minutes, Poppy and Oakley are looking at rankings smiling as Lee is at number one and is favored to win. But Bohdi is doing her making side eyeing the phone

"I don't even want to look at the ranking right now. I really need big scores this weekend," she says

Poppy looks at her with a 'are you for real' kind of face "Boh's, you're going to do great. You always kill at Jackson Bay,"

She snaps her make up compartment and looks at Lee "I just never know what board to use. I was thinking the 6 but the 6'1 felt good the other day too,"

Lee nods as Summer cuts in "Yeah who could tell? Big decisions," she says sarcastically

"Anyway, what's the move with tonight?" Summer looks between the three and props herself up onto the seat "Is there an after party or something?"

Poppy lets out a laugh "If by after party you mean Marlon's mum suppurating the girls from the boys and sending us to bed by 7 o'clock,"

Oakley laughs "But its cool, usually we just hang out and do stuff in our room anyway," Bohdi and Poppy nod at Lee's statement

Summer looks at us in boredom "Let me guess. Give each other mani-pedis and talk about boys?" Oak rolls her eyes at what she said and Bohdi looks at her with 'whatever' written all over her face

Poppy looks out the window with a smile on her face when Bohdi says "Sorry, is that what you usually do at sleepovers?"

Poppy laughs at Summer while she plays with her hands "No. I mean I don't know, Honestly, I don't really do the whole female bonding thing,"

"Girls are way to much drama,"

Poppy scoffs and looks at Oakley and Bohdi speaks "Um, have you spent anytime with Ari and Marlon? Compared to those drama queens, we're chill,"

"Preach," Oakley says while holding up her water bottle

Summer grabs Bohdi and Poppy's shoulders "You know what chills out drama queens? Parties!"

Oakley rolls her eyes once more why does summer only want to party, some of us really want to focus so this club can succeed

Manu looks into the back "Uh hello supervising adult here, there'll be no big parties this weekend, not on my watch," Poppy playfully rolls her eyes

Bohdi is starting to get annoyed too "This is a get away for you Summer, but were here to compete,"

She shakes her head "So am I,"

"No, for real" Summer nods her head at Poppy "I thought you just told Ari's parents that so he could come?" Bohdi questions

She lifts up her hands and Oakley looks at the trio talking "I did, at first. But then I was like, whatever I may as well do it,"

Manu looks back at Summer "Wait, you actually entered the competition?" he says with shock lacing his voice

Everyone was wearing a smile on their face trying not to laugh at Summer "What? How hard could it be?" Everyone scoffs and Oakley shakes her head moving her view back out of the window

Oakleys heat was up first, she was against all strangers but their ranking spoke for themselves. They were in one of the highest heats so she had to bring her A game

Manu came up behind her and smiles "You got this Lee just do your best alright, remember keep your head in it," She playfully salutes as he walks back to the rest of the team

Griff walks up to her side "Hey Oak's," She smiles at him "Just wanted to say good luck, and that you forgot this on your team table. Ive never seen you surf without it so,"

She looks at his hand and sees her moms anklet, Lee sends him a huge smile and throws it on her foot and tightens it "Thank you so much Griff," He smiles "Good luck Oaks,"

Lee grabs her board and starts to line up with the other surfers, the horn blows and she sprints to the deep water. Battling as fast as she can she picks up the first wave she sees

After boosting herself up she throws a full and lands it, following with a backflip she grabs the bottom of the board and hugs it to her knees as she leads it back to the water landing it perfectly

She follows back to the waves as she races another girl to a big one, she groans as she gives away allowing the girl in the yellow shirt to take it

That was until she found a better one, she gets up and follows it and sees her change for the rodeo flip, she boosts her self on top and flips, landing perfectly into the wave finding enough time to try her front side cave

She speeds through it and gains more momentum throws her arms and comes out the front perfectly and lets a smile take over

Currently she's in first but she tries to take another wave to secure it, she grabs onto one and ties together four rotational turns, and finishes it with a front side turn. She lets the wave carry her in as the announcer says she is moving on

The team comes up for a hug and they all congratulated her, now its Poppy's turn to show them who's boss
