"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it."

-Confucius

You stared down at your hand.

There was a gash on your palm, nothing too serious, but something deep enough to draw blood and make holding things with your left hand a bit more uncomfortable.

You hadn't cut yourself.

The siren you were tied to must have been injured.

For some reason, as you marched towards the coastline, your heart sank at the thought.

You knew that it was more than likely just because of the mark that you were feeling this way. It was a side effect of a minor inconvenience in your life nothing more.

You had more pressing matters to deal with anyway, a small cut on your hand and an emotional crisis were the very least of your problems.

Not when your entire crew was about to be sacrificed to a goddess--or rather--you.

Alon trailed behind you, huffing breathlessly as he struggled to keep up with your brisk pace.

"These people," You mumbled beneath your breath, "Kidnapping my crew, taking my weapons and now trying to feed me human hearts."

You turned, giving Alon a look.

"Why can't I end up in a world with no mortal danger? Would that be so much to ask?"

Alon paused, giving you a puzzled look.

You threw your hands up in the air, knowing it would be useless to even try at this point.

You wouldn't get any sympathy. Not from him, at least.

"My Goddess," Alon called from behind you, "I don't understand why we didn't just take the path up to the cliffs. It would have been far easier than the trek we are making now."

"Because that's what they'd expect. If we're going to get the drop on them, they shouldn't see us coming."

Alon's brows furrowed.

"I don't understand what you mean. Why would we drop ourselves on them?"

"That's not what I-"

You paused, inhaling deeply.

"It just means...surprising them."

Alon nodded in understanding, continuing the trek with you.

"My goddess?"

"Hm?"

"Have you seen many wonderful places?"

You paused at the question, tilting your head to the side.

"I suppose," You muttered, "I've seen a few interesting things in my time."

"And is the world as big as my mother told me?"

You gave him a fond look.

"Bigger, probably."

"And beautiful?"

Your smile fell at that, body turning to face the younger man.

"Dangerous." You said, "Unforgiving."

He watched as you pushed hair from your face.

"Honestly, I wish I could say it was something worth seeing, but the majority of the world is covered in ugly people who do ugly things. Whatever beauty this world holds is rare and, once you find a piece of beauty, you should hold onto it. Some people live their entire lives without seeing any of that beauty...Some people only ever see the ugly."
