Nora POV
When I come to, I can't see anything. My first thought is that I must've gone blind somehow. I blink my eyes multiple times before they come into focus. Where am I?
The room is dark and I'm surrounded by boxes. Oh. I'm in our basement. I rarely come down here. All of the pain surges through my body as I try to sit up. I feel for my phone in my back pocket. It's cracked and dead. Perfect.
Next thing I know, I'm hearing footsteps descending down the stairs. Shit.
"Jesus Christ, finally. You're awake. Get up, you have chores to do." I hear my mother's annoyed grating voice.
"What happened? Why am I down here?"
She turns on the bright lightbulb and I see her roll her eyes.
"You decided to dramatically pass out and wouldn't wake up. The neighbors stopped by and you wouldn't move so Randall had to carry your ass down here."
I shudder. His hands were on me. Who knows what he did to me.
"I think I need to go to the hospital. I can't get up." I weakly say.
"Shut up, you're fine. Come on. Get up!" She yells.
"I can't." I start crying.
"For Christ's sake." She roughly grabs my arm and drags me up but I can barely stand.
I cry out loudly due to how much pain courses through. Oh my god, I just want to die.
"Ugh fine, guess I'll drive you to the hospital. But if you say one word about anything, I'll make sure you don't wake up next time."
Somehow I make it to the car. I can't reach my seatbelt so I don't bother. Hopefully God will just take me out.
At the hospital, I'm put onto a stretcher and taken into the trauma room in the ER. As they're taking their scans and talking medical jargon, my mom is explaining to the doctors what happened. Of course she conjured some lie up about me falling while rock climbing. Never once have I gone rock climbing. I notice one of the female doctors looking into my eyes as if to see if she's lying or not. I quickly look away.
I eventually am told they have to perform a minor surgery. As they change my clothes into the gown, the same female doctor from before sighs at the marks and scars on my torso and legs.
"This didn't happen from rock climbing, did it Nora?" She asks.
I shake my head and look down away from her eyes.
"I'm Doctor Jo Wilson. You can call me Jo. Can you tell me what really happened?"
I hesitate and open my mouth but no words come out. To my luck, the other doctor walks in to start wheeling me to the OR.
Jo holds my hand the whole way to the OR.
"You're gonna be alright, okay?" She squeezes my hand. I'm so thankful to have some sort of comfort during this moment.
The last thing I remember is counting down from 100 and now I seem to be back in my hospital room. The lights are dimmed and I'm the only one in here. Shocker.
I try to reach for some water but it's a bit too far. I also can't find my phone. Not that it would be of use but I do want to know where it is.
A few minutes later, Jo walks in carrying a small bag. Looks like my belongings.
"Oh hey, you're awake! How are you feeling?" She sets the bag down.
"I feel fine. I'm not in as much pain."
