Pictures tell a thousand words, that's the saying, right? Well, for me these pictures don't tell anything. Only that the truth needs to be said, quick. I'm tired of pretending that everything will be alright because I know it's not. My dad gave me an album of when I was younger to try to see if I can remember anything but I'm just drawing blanks. How can I forget my whole entire life? How could my own brother do this to me over some girl?
He tried apologizing to me over and over again but I don't think I'll ever get over this. Who could? He came in and knocked on the door.
"I'll give you two some privacy," my dad said.
I wanted to shout "Don't leave me with this maniac!", but the words wouldn't come out. Instead I told Riley he could sit down. He started pouring out what happened. Who the girl he beat me up was.
"Ana wasn't like any other girl I've ever met. She was kind, smart, beautiful, but I guess she liked you more than she liked me," he said.
"What do you mean," I asked.
"She broke up with me to date you. I was pretty pissed off, but you guys made a nice couple," he admitted.
"Wait, I can't believe I did that to you," I said.
"It isn't half as bad as what I did to you," he replied with a grim look.
"There was this girl that visited me two weeks ago. Said she was my girlfriend. That I broke up with her a couple of hours before..." I trailed off.
"Oh my god, you broke up with Ana," Riley says shocked.
"Wait, wait I think I remember! I, uh, told her that I couldn't go out with her knowing that you still had feelings for her, that you're my brother now and I couldn't do that to you," I said.
"You remember, oh my god you remember," Riley rejoiced.
Riley gave me a huge hug and for a minute we forgot what caused me to forget in the first time. And when we did remember, we stood there awkwardly.
"Uh, shouldn't we tell the doctor," asked Riley.
"No, I mean they'd ask me what happened, who did this and I can't rat you out," I answered.
"Well, you can't pretend, either. And I can't live knowing what I did and that you're still protecting me," he started, "I don't care what happens, you're better now and that's all that matters, okay?"
"Okay."
