—————————————————————Despite Severus's discussion with his daughter, in an effort not to upset his pregnant wife, he continued to let the Malfoys conduct a weekly visit for the rest of the summer.
The glad smile that drifted across Harriet's face each time she saw Astoria was a pleasure Severus could not deny his beloved.
Although, as Harriet's belly swelled, his desire to protect his family only grew stronger.
Maggie and Scorpius took no other walks through the garden.
Instead, they spent each of their following visits on the Snapes' sofa, with Little Sev playing on the floor and Severus's watchful, scowling gaze bearing down upon them.
Maggie nearly died from embarrassment but Scorpius shrugged aside the inconveniences.
He would accept any terms to spend an hour or two with Maggie.
While Severus pretended to read The Daily Prophet at the kitchen table one morning, Scorpius asked Maggie, "Have you gone shopping yet?"
"For school supplies?" She asked, "No, not quite yet."
"Think you'll be buying any Quidditch robes this year?" Scorpius smiled.
Severus narrowed his black eyes to slits at the evident happiness he saw on Scorpius's young face as he looked at Maggie.
"Oh......I dunno. I suppose I haven't really given it much thought!" She laughed.
"Perhaps you should." Scorpius shrugged, "Dad told me your mum was really good at Quidditch. Maybe you'd be good at it too."
Severus's tapered fingers gripped the edges of the newspaper as he controlled his rage at the boy who dared suggest his daughter take part in one of the magical world's most dangerous sports.
"Yeah, I've heard a few stories." Maggie chuckled, "I'll think about it....I suppose. We'll see......I dunno."
Scorpius nodded as a silence fell between them.
"Are you going to try out?....For Slytherin's team?" She frowned.
"Me? Oh yeah, I'll try out." Scorpius nodded, "My dad said he'd intervene, but I told him to stay away. If they don't let me in, they don't let me in. The last thing I want is him coming down to throw his name around."
"That's very noble of you." Maggie smiled.
"No, it isn't. It's just fair." Scorpius shrugged.
His humble words failed to win Severus's admiration as he continued to peer at the boy with his eyes narrowed and his teeth gnashed.
Whether he wanted to admit it or not, Scorpius was one of the most kind-hearted and chivalrous young men Maggie could have possibly befriended at Hogwarts.
—————————————————————
Scorpius Malfoy was not only a considerate, polite young man, he was also astute and intelligent.
He felt Severus's disapproving stare boring into his back whenever he visited Maggie.
He could hear the undertone of disdain in the Minister's voice whenever Severus spoke to him.
Scorpius carried the notion of Severus's disgust like a heavy weight in his heart each time he returned from the Snapes' home.
Once, after he and Astoria arrived back at Malfoy Manor, he shuffled off to the parlor with a frown while his mother went to her bedroom.
