Jackie's POV
Today I'm moving and I want to be excited about it but I can't help but feel bad for leaving all my childhood home memories. I didn't really have any friends here, I felt like I just was cool with people here but I didn't really have anyone to have sleepovers with or hangout with. So it doesn't feel like I'm leaving anyone in particular behind.
Mom and Dad got new job positions out in New Orleans and I can't lie I am a little excited to visit all the mystical shops and tourists attractions. "You okay there honey?'' mom asks looking back at me from the passenger seat hopeful for a positive answer. " Yeah Ma , I'm fine " I answer back honestly. " Well good because we're almost there" she says excitedly. I look out my window and notice that we are surrounded by thick forestry. I mentally sigh at the sight of the vibrant and unnerving forestry surrounding us. .
I thought she said we were almost there, why are we still moving? How deep into the forest can some house be? I decide to give up on questioning the logic of the people who built this house out here damn near in the middle of nowhere and just lose myself in the view of trees passing by. I catch sight of a huge deer with massive antlers staring right at me as we pass by. That was weird, dumb deer got a staring problem or something? "Hey Dad, are there any wild animals out here?" I ask. " Well sweetie, I think there's a bunch of frogs, deer, fish and cats out here you know common critters but the real estate agents told me that their all harmless so you don't have to worry about a thing." dad assures me before I can even question anything.
"Okay" I say quietly still a little unnerved that deer was looking directly at me. My thoughts are interrupted by my parents' loud cheering as the house in question comes into view. I chuckle and shake my head at my parents' occasional immature nature. We pull up on the gravel driveway, directly facing the massive mahogany doors I'll soon have to used to pushing open every day. I'm the first to step out of the car and gawk at the new house I'll be living in. I mentally scoff at the realisation that I will be in the this massive building by myself because of my parents' constant travelling.
Suddenly the mahogany doors in question open up revealing the most breath-taking man I have ever seen. A mocha stoic beauty with the coldest icy blue eyes I had ever seen in my entire life, they were almost unnatural in their rarity. This breath-taking giant steps out the mansion and scans us before a slight smile appears on his face. Not quite forced but like a wolf looking at a herd of defenceless baby sheep. After briefly scanning us, he widens his smile a little bit showing off his perfect pearly whites. I don't miss his abnormally sharp canines. Weird, for such a perfect guy his canines are kind of scary and softly contrast again his striking features.
He firmly shakes my father's hand when he reaches the bottom of the stairs, he turns to my mother and gently lifts her hand to kiss it ever so delicately and as he does so his eyes shift to me and my breath hitches slightly. I gulp down all the intimidation and all my nervousness as he turns to me, he hesitates for just a split second and slightly tilts his head to the side. "You must the famous Jackie-Lin" he says with a slightly bigger smile, my nervous smile faulters a little as I look at my dad for help. "I told Mr Halifax here that you were excited to be going to college in New Orleans now" my dad informs me and my smile regains its confident again and I look back at Mr Halifax. "That's me I guess" I say trying to make a good first impression , he softly presents he hand and I hesitantly put my hand within his despite every nerve in my body screaming at me not to.
When my hand touches his, immediate shivers run throughout my body and my hand starts to slightly shake and while I try to will my hand to stop shaking , my mind becomes consumed with how soft his hand is. I didn't really know what to expect but I was not this, his lips touching my hand knocks me out of my inner monologue and what feels like hot ice erupts from the point of contact. The feeling shoots up my arm and climbs up the side of my necks to give the side of my face exposed to his the feeling of static in the most addictive way possible. My eyes snap up to meet his already staring at mine and for a slight minute time feels like it stood still as we locked eyes. I couldn't help but feel like something carnal and malevolent was staring back at me and this confused me greatly because the beautiful man in front of me with the voice of silk and eyes of ice didn't look like his aura.
Time feels like its back to normal and all the flushed out sound that I didn't notice disappear in the first place come flooding back. My chest relaxes and I release a breath I didn't notice that I was holding, instinctually I blink rapidly to make sure that I am truly back in the moment. He suddenly lets go of my hand and takes a step back then directs his attention on my parents. "Shall we?" he enquires gently with his arm and torso slightly leaning towards the doors of our new home and with that we walk in.
The was an aged macabre beauty with a spacious foyer and very high intricately decorated ceilings, the walls were covered in the red paint accented with tiny black flower patterns. The floors were freshly polished oak boards that had a slight shine to them. I continue to scan around my new home that does not really feel new and come across an oval shaped mirror hanging on the wall next to the dark rose wood stairs and an old blood red rugs draped over them. Looking directly into the mirror I feel butterflies swirl in my stomach, I'm not looking at anything new here just my reflection but for some reason it doesn't feel like me. If anything it feels like someone else imitating me and I can't help but also feel compelled to draw in closer. Each step closer felt like my heart was on a sugar rush and I needed more, I just had to have more.
Finally standing directly in front of the mirror, I watch entranced as my Reflection sweetly smiles me not realizing that I myself am not smiling I continue to stare at myself in the mirror. When suddenly I am snapped out of my trance by Mr Halifax's reflection behind me. My instinct to blink repeatedly returns and my eyes snap to Mr Halifax's icy eyes staring back at me with an amused glint in them. He leans down near my ear and whispers " We should get going ". My cheeks tint a slight rose shade as I nods with an embarrassed tight lipped smile and so we begin our tour of the house.
