Previous Chapter Recap:Jacob
"So you remember her." She says.
"Who?"
"Nicole. You remember Nicole.""How do you..?"
"Valencia told me you recognized her. Why?"
"I-"
"Did something happen between you two? In the past?"
"I- I don't know why-" I stutter through the sentence because I'm completely caught off guard.
"Why her?" Why not me is what I think she really wants to ask. Though, I'm skating on thin ice right now and would be an idiot to point that out.
"Karma, I don't know! Jesus woman. How the hell am I supposed to answer that?"
We both fall silent again, both of us being careful to not let this escalate into a full fledged fight. As much as it turns me on, I don't want to fight with her right now. I just want to know what she's thinking. "Please," I say, my voice soft. "Tell me what's on your mind?"
When she lets out a sarcastic laugh, I know I'm done for. "That's what you have to say? What's on my mind?" She mocks me. "What's on my mind is that I am a goddamn idiot for believing anything you've ever said. That I am a fool," Her volume starts to raise. "for not seeing what is right in front of me - you are a manipulative, self serving bastard that only looks out for himself. That the only reason you came to get me was because you couldn't help it. If you really had a choice, you wouldn't be here, would you? I bet you wouldn't be able to refrain from "teaching them a lesson" and leaving me out to dry, or worse. I don't trust you because you're trustworthy. I trust you because my body recognizes you even if my mind can't - that's the only reason. And that's a pretty bad fucking reason if you ask me."
"Karm, I don't want to fight with yo-"
"You think I want to fight with you!? Do you think I enjoy how much mental energy it takes being around you?! You pointed a gun at me Jacob." My name comes out of her word like a curse word. "Said you would shoot me dead. And then you say that's just how it has to be? You establish trust between us, make me think that you're the only person in the world that truly has my back, and then the second my existence is an inconvenience you have me trembling in fear against your chest so you can prove a point? That is psychotic behavior. Psychotic, manipulative, abusive behavior." She's yelling now, and I can tell in her body language how badly she wants to hit me. It's only a second later that her hand is flying towards my face, getting ready to slap me yet again.
I catch her arm by the wrist and hold it. She tries to wriggle away, but I'm so angry at this point that my grip is much stronger than hers. "You're done putting your fucking hands on me, Karma, I'll tell you that much."
She yanks away from me and pushes me away from her, letting out a frustrated grunt. I decide to let that one slide. "Or what? You'll shoot me dead, huh?" She takes a deep breath and attempts to compose herself, but her voice still shakes with anger when she speaks. "When this is over, I never want to see you again."
My attempt to deescalate the situation is out the window. If she wants a fight that bad, I'll give her one. "Great. I can arrange that."
She scoffs, and a stray tear falls down her cheek. She quickly wipes it away and her expression remains stoic. "You are such a dick."
"And what about it?" I bite back, not being able to see past my own anger at this point.
"Ever since you came into my life you've done nothing but make it worse."
