Days passed by achingly slow. Ever since these odd people showed up, it was like a light turned on in your mind and brightened your days. Even through the hunter exam and breaking in to save Killua, you never felt truly alone. Then one day, they were just gone. Leorio was off studying to become a doctor, Gon and Killua left for their own adventures, Kurapika left to search for his clan’s eyes, and you were left here. Thanks to your new licence, you managed to get a new flat in a good part of the city and decorated it to your liking. You used to spend all day out, trying new foods, visiting monuments, and attending events, but it didn't quite feel the same. You always felt as if there were eyes on you and found yourself nervous around street cameras. It was starting to scare you but you didn't know why, eventually deciding you had a stalker. You removed all electronics except your phone from your apartment, checked for cameras constantly, and changed your locks multiple times, but none of it seemed to help. You convinced yourself that you were just being paranoid, besides, there was no reason you would be followed, but you tossed and turned all night and couldn't sleep. You eventually packed a bag of your essentials and have been drifting from hotel to hotel, never staying in one place for long. Your days were spent sitting in a room and finding some form of entertainment, only leaving to collect the food you ordered and waiting for the night to come. Night was the only time that the feeling seemed to dissipate, allowing you to leave and explore the city without stress. The dull ticking of the clock in the room was interrupted by a ding. Your phone had been haphazardly tossed onto the sofa as you indulged yourself in an old book you had bought recently. The only people who messaged you were your group of friends who would occasionally chat whenever they were free. You unlocked your passcode and flipped to Gon’s chat.

You felt a buzz in your chest at the thought of meeting up with your friends and smiled to yourself.

GON FREECS
9:17 pm
Gon: Tomorrow! I'll send you the location

Tomorrow? He couldn't have asked earlier? The short notice however wasn't enough to ruin your good mood. You packed everything you had, which wasn't much, and checked out of your hotel room. The train station was lit up by the fluorescent overhead bulbs that cast dark shadows on the tired faces of those around you. You probably looked odd to all the night shift workers but the idea of seeing your friends again left a pep in your step. The train was mostly quiet except for the snores of some people trying to rest before their job and you were seated in a mostly empty cart. A decision was quickly made to slide your headphones on and watch the world fly by, only lit by the light of the moon. Your peaceful view out of the window was interrupted by the clicking of dress shoes on train tile, turning towards the noise, a young man with raven hair parted down the middle caught your eyes, flashing a smile. He sat across you in your booth and you removed your headphones, sighing internally that someone interrupted your peace. He brushed his hair out of his eyes which looked almost black, and you took note of the bandage wrapped around his forehead.
“Like what you see?” He joked, pulling a small smile from you.
“I'm Chrollo, who might you be?”
Something about him set off warning bells in your mind but he seemed friendly enough. You gave him your name and he nodded simply.
“What are you doing on a train this late?” You considered if you should talk to him but it was a public train, he seemed affable, and you didn't mind some small talk.
“I'm meeting up with some friends in Yorknew,” he nodded along, “They’re waiting for me.” You added on quickly, just in case he wanted to try anything.
“I'm heading to Yorknew as well, I'm joining some friends for a job.”
You remained sceptical of the man you now know as Chrollo but he proved good enough company and soon enough, you found yourself lost in idle chatter.
