LOCKWOOD
35 portland rowI had made a iron chain circle for Leighton to stand in when we came downstairs to get ready to talk to Annabel. My one condition of communicating with Annabel was that Leighton would be inside the circle so that she couldn't connect with her. Lucy and George agreed.
I love democracy.
I slowly walked over to Lucy, she was sat in the centre of the room so that we could all keep an eye on her as she listened to Annabel. I carefully handed her the ring and said,
"If she takes any liberties, we're right here, okay?" I paused. "Be careful."
My eyes flickered over to Leighton, it was more of a warning look, telling her that no matter what, she needed to stay in that circle. Thankfully, she nodded.
"It's okay, Annabel." Lucy reassured. "It's safe."
I wetted my bottom lip, my eyes flickering from Lucy to Leighton back and forth. I had always cared about Leighton and Lucy was new and a friend, I needed to make sure she was safe.
"There's a song playing, in the room." Lucy stated. "She loves it. It's their song."
"Who's they, Annabel and-" George asked, but he was quickly cut off by me telling him to shush.
George glanced over to Leighton, who shrugged. She clearly didn't know who killed Annabel. I would've thought it was Hugo, since she spoke about him earlier to me when Annabel took over.
"She's so happy. She loves him." Lucy smiled. "She's dancing to the song. He's watching her."
Lucy slowly stood up, making Leighton step forward slightly. I quickly placed my hand out, silently telling her to stay exactly where she was. I noticed the way that Leighton's eyes followed Lucy's every move carefully.
"He wants her, but, it's just-"
"What is it?" I questioned, Lucy's eyes flew open.
"He's angry. Jealous." She whispered gently. "She's afraid."
My heart was racing at how close Lucy was to me. Her hands trying to touch my chest or face. I glance at Leighton, it was similar to earlier, when Leighton straddled me to tell me how much she loved me.
I mean, how much Annabel loved Hugo.
Lucy's hand cupped my cheek. A smile forming on her face. I gripped the girls wrist and removed her hand from my face. I was beginning to get worried now, this was Lucy's first time feeling this connected to a ghost.
"It's alright. He loves me. You love me, don't you?" Lucy's hands trailed over my chest, causing my jaw to tighten uncomfortably. "You gave me the ring. He'd never hurt me."
"Lockwood, this needs to stop. She can't take much more." Leighton warned, and she was right it was going to far.
"Look at me-" Lucy let go of a loud gasp, clutching at her throat.
I noticed Leighton going to step forward, but I couldn't have her do that. She had only just regained her strength back from earlier.
"Leighton, no." I shouted. But she didn't listen, instead, she stepped out of the circle.
"Annabel." Lucy's head snapped towards me. "Leave the girl alone. Come talk to me. I know your past."
I quickly caught Lucy as her knees buckled beneath her. I gently placed her on the sofa before walking over to Leighton.
"Leighton, you okay?" I asked, reaching out and extending my hand.
The blonde let go of a loud gasp, clutching at her throat. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head. I gripped the girls shoulders, trying to get Leighton back.
Annabel had a connection that strong to Leighton, that Leighton didn't even need to be holding the ring.
"I thought he loved me." Leighton whispered, her eyes brimming with tears as she looked at me. "I thought we would be forever."
"Who?" I demanded. The quicker we found out who killed Annabel the quicker we can get rid of the source and Leighton would lose the attachment and be safe.
"I don't want to speak his name again." Leighton spoke slow and calmly. "He killed me."
My brows furrowed, I've never known a ghost speak through someone else.
"Figure it out, or someone else will get hurt." Leighton seethed, a sickening smirk forming on her face.
"George, we need to stop this." I spoke strongly. That was Annabel threatening to hurt Leighton. There was no way in hell that I was going to let that happen.
I was going to destroy that source.
"No. Don't. Don't send me away-" George flung open the curtains, Leighton collapsed into my arms.
There was a loud screech, the chair flying forward. I managed to push Leighton down, my body hovering over hers, shielding her from the salt bombs that were now doing off.
Leighton's eyes opened, her lips parted, her skin was hot to touch again and her face pale.
"He choked her Lockwood, she choked to death." Leighton's bottom lip quivered. Her hands clutching at my jumper as I helped her sit up.
I placed her on the sofa next to Lucy before taking a seat next to the blonde myself. I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her into my chest. Her head resting in the crook of my neck, her breathing shallow.
"We need to find whoever did it. Annabel deserves justice."
