"Oh Kumori, why did you do that to your hair?" My mom felt my newly dyed hair with a look of disapproval. Ignoring my mother's boundaries, I have bleached and dyed my hair a very light pink. I was inspired by a character from a show I watched a while ago. She had very great pink hair. My mom detested my decision for myself and wanted to take me to the salon to get my hair 'fixed.' Obviously, I didn't want to, but she said it didn't matter what I wanted, only what was best for me. We always had petty arguments like this. I wish she could listen to what I have to say. Ultimately, we talked at each other, not to each other. She walked away to grab her phone. When she dialed the salon, I told her that the dye was permanent and that I planned to keep it that way. She dropped her phone and marched towards me in anguish. "You have way crossed the line, young lady!" Mom stormed off to my room. She came out with a large suitcase, "Since you want to be making your own decisions, go make them in the real world! You're old enough as it is. Now get out of my house!"
I was only sixteen, turning seventeen later on. I mentally scoffed at her overreaction. She was a stickler for the rules. She obeyed everything to the letter. Those who bent the rules in her home would not be let off with a warning. She would ensure you never do it again, and I mean it...ever again.
Sure, I didn't want to leave home. But I was also tired of hearing her and her authorities. Without saying anything, I grabbed my suitcase and went to my room to pack. For the rest of my time left here, it was silent. I welcomed it with open arms. Oh, how the silence could've visited my home more often, then I might have tolerated my mom a little more. Although, I had been thinking about where to go. I don't have friends with apartments willing to take me in. More importantly, I don't have that much in my pockets. All I have is my allowance for this month. I'll have to find a job or something. I'll figure it out soon enough. While packing my clothes, I saw a picture of my mother and me smiling while holding hands. We were at a lake with the water splashing both of us.
Wonder what happened to us.
I finished packing and walked from my room to see the living room empty. I heard some muffled voices in my mom's room. She was probably on a call or something. She didn't even have the decency to come and bid me goodbye. Before I left for good, I checked if I had my phone, headphones, allowance, and other essentials. It was cold outside, so I had to dress appropriately. I couldn't see anything, excluding the traffic lights and the moon. Thank god there wasn't anyone up this late. I didn't want anyone to see me with my suitcase, figuring out I'd been kicked out. I started walking, only to see a bench at a bus stop. There was no point in waiting there since the buses stopped coming after 10. As I passed by, I found something peculiar sitting on that bench. It was a black cat. You don't see strays where I live that often. Maybe this cat was lost. Or it doesn't have a home. What a coincidence. I sat down on the bench to pet the cat. As soon as I did, it immediately climbed on my lap. It was probably trying to warm itself through my body heat.
"That makes two of us, buddy." I choked. I didn't realize tears were running down my cheeks.
More thoughts started to come down like my tears. What am I to do? The only family I have left here just irrationally kicked me out. I'm broke, have nowhere to go, and have no job experience. I'm doomed. All I want is someplace to stay. I held the feline close to me as if I weren't able to ever again. In response, the cat started to lick my tears with its rough tongue. It was itchy, but I didn't care.
Just when all seemed lost, I heard something coming this way. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw...headlights. A bus was coming. But why now? There shouldn't be any buses coming by this late. The cat jumped off my lap and landed in front of me on the floor. It had its eyes on the vehicle. When it moved closer, I saw the details of the bus. It was a cat bus of some sort. The whole lower half of the bus had a black cat painted on it. The rest was the classic yellow color for a bus. On the front plate, it only had two letters: LD. I looked at the side of it. It says Lonely Devil. Guess that's what LD stood for.
