I was introduced to Beelzebub on the way to his room. He says if his name is hard to pronounce, he wants me to call him Beel. "Here we are. Make yourself at home." He had a cool room. That Lucifer wasn't kidding. Beel does have two beds. One on the left had an orange atmosphere, and the one on the right was purple. I got to the purple bed because I assumed the orange one was Beel's. But before I could get to it, Beelzebub stood in front of me, shaking his head,
"Not that one. You should sleep in mine, and I'll be on the couch."
First of all. There's a couch in his room? Secondly, "Why don't you want me to use that bed?"
Beel looked away, scratching his neck. Something was stopping him from answering my question. It might be personal, so I shouldn't force him. When he's comfortable, he can tell me whenever that's happening.
"It's just...that bed belongs to my twin brother, Belphegor."
"What happened to him?"
"He was sent to the human world as an exchange student. He's coming back at the end of the year, so you will probably never meet him."
Wait, wait, wait, hold up. Let's rewind. What is he talking about?
"Aren't we in the human world?"
I must have sounded like an idiot in Beelzebub's eyes. He was looking at me like I was crazy, "No? Nekomaru never told you when he brought you here?"
"Tell me what?"
"Do you know where you are?"
"The house of Lamentation?"
"Yeah, that's in Devildom. The demon realm." He spoke slowly, making sure I could process all of this. Honestly, it made me feel like he thought I was stupid. I think he does. How dumb does he think I have to be to believe him? Demons. Is it like hell? I haven't even died yet, so how'd I get here?
"Are you messing with me?"
"No. I assumed you'd find it hard to believe when it's thrown at you like this." He walked to a window to open the curtains to reveal a pitch-black sky. "It looks like night right now, but you wait. When it's morning, the sky will stay black. Here in Devildom, we don't have a sun."
I couldn't decide between laughing or being concerned about this guy sticking to his made-up story. Beel's just tired. I'm sure he'll be in his right mind when he gets some sleep.
"I'm hungry."
Or when he eats.
He disappeared from the bedroom part of his room. A light suddenly illuminated the dark area where Beel was. Curious, I followed him to see what he was doing. I learned that this space was very ample. This part of the room had a table for dining, a kitchen counter, a stove, an oven, and a microwave! This is a small house, not a room! Beel had his head in a mini fridge, looking for something to eat. "Here we are." He came out with a pudding cup in his hand. I've never seen someone so giddy for pudding. My stomach started to growl, just watching Beel enjoy himself. The growling was so loud that Beel could hear it. I forgot that I didn't eat anything since I left my mom. He sat there, dumbfounded by my stomach, making me feel embarrassed.
Beel got up and left with no questions asked.
Before I could wallow in self-pity, Beel came with another pudding cup, "I don't know what it's like to have no food, nor do I want to know so...here." He handed the snack to me with a smile. It was a pretty smile. Grateful for his generosity, I smiled back. Both of us sat in comfortable silence together, enjoying some pudding.
