This AU started off as "haha wouldn't Raph look cool in ancient Greek armor?" and turned into "what if these turtles were GODS?"
Ok, so most of my inspiration for this AU comes from Greek Mythology. There's a lot of divergence from the actual mythos, I'm no Greek expert, and I'm especially no character designer, but this AU was fun to make, especially thinking of new character designs. I've only drawn the turtles and my OCs, but I'll see if I can draw April, Draxum, and Splinter in the future.
Also doing that made me really want to redraw the Elemental Turtles-
Anyways, I'm gonna get into the lore, then into the characters.
For the lore, basically, the Gods and mortals depend on each other; mortals depend on Gods since they created the world they live in and continue to control it, and Gods depend on the worship of mortals. They can survive without mortals, but the more they're worshiped, the stronger they become.
Though Gods don't age, I like to think they can retire and pass on their titles to their heirs, and that's what the Hamato clan is. They're like the Zeuses of the Gods, ruling above them all, except they aren't douches like the real Zeus.
As time went on, humans and yokai went on different paths. Yokai, being mostly magical, continued to worship the Gods. Humans started progressing with their technology and started becoming more self-reliant, and their belief in the Gods slowly dwindled, which is why Draxum wants to destroy humanity in this AU.
(you can decide how technologically advanced you want human civilization to be, it can be modern day, or it can be around ancient Greek times)
The Hamato clan, on the other hand, didn't mind this; If humans can take care of themselves, that's fine. But Splinter- back then Lou Jitsu- wanted more than just a few leftovers as an offering. He wanted fame, he wanted glory, so he disguised himself as a human and did all sorts of tasks that were easy for him but impossible for regular humans, so he became a celebrity, and the more he was praised- whether they realized he was a God or not- he became stronger and more revered.
Basically follows the same story as regular ROTTMNT, he gets kidnapped by Big Mama, she puts him in the Battle Nexus, he gets kidnapped by Draxum, yadda yadda.
In Draxum's quest to destroy humanity, he took four baby turtles and gave them immortality, making them Gods hoping they would help him in his goals. Didn't work, Splinter saved them and started raising them to take care of the world.
