"Soos, do you know any local legends?" I ask.
"I heard a crazy man on about a monster called the Gobblewonker over on Scuttlebutt Island," Soos responds.
"Well let's go there then!" I exclaim, it feels amazing having another person believe me. Well I mean it's great having Bill believe me, but that was in his job description, whereas Soos generally does.
We are over halfway to the island when Soos asks, "Do you have sunscreen on?"
"No." I respond not thinking much of it. Soos turns the boat around, he then says
"Let's go get some sunscreen!" I stop him.
"Soos, I don't wear sunscreen."
"Why, dude? It's like there to You know protect us because the sun can be very evil you know dude."
"No, no, no Soos the sun isn't evil it's the government, they are afraid that if the sun gives us all the vitamins we need, we will be smart enough to over through them. That's why they gave us sunscreen to block it down, luckily I never wear sunscreen so one day I can- never mind."
Soos looks amazed, then puzzled so he asks, "what about sunburn?"
"Makes you stronger, more pain resistance- well that's what I heard I only got sunburnt once when I was 5 ish."
We soon arrive at Scuttlebutt Island. As I step off the boat fog blocks my vision. " Wait dude, did you bring a torch?" Soos asks. I reach into my jacket and pull out two torches and pass one to Soos. "No, I didn't," I respond.
Soos laughs, I think this is the first time this summer I remember someone laughing with me and not at me. I like this feeling.
We walk through the Island and I watch my back with every other step. I notice that every now and then Soos checks that I'm still there.
I hear a rustle. I throw my arm out in front of Soos. With my other hand, I reach into my jacket and pass Soos a camera. As we creep forward, I notice Soos is quite good at creeping up. Run. I follow orders and run forward, as I run I shout " Soos get the boat and drive round to this side!" Without question, Soos trusts me and runs to get the boat. Whilst I trust Cipher and run forwards.
I reach the waters. There is nothing in the water. Did Bill lie? No, he's a friend, friends don't lie. I look down into the water and notice a ripple. Then another ripple. Then another. And another. They get faster and faster and faster. Soon a large-necked monster roars up. I can tell its metal, I don't know if Soos believes it's real so I won't let him know it's metal. As I was list in thought the Gobblewonker throws me into the water.
Luckily I had a life jacket on this time. Yet that doesn't change the fact that the water was freezing cold and that this is incredibly dangerous. My body temperature is dropping. I see Soos on the boat. I use all my energy to shout, " Soos over here, I was thro-" my head falls under, I push my self up. Soos throws me a top and pulls me onto the boat.
"That was very dangerous dude." Soos informs me. " I know." I respond.
I walk towards the back of the boat. " Gobblewonker!" I shout. As if it was a keyword Soos drove forward as fast as could. Yet Soos didn't watch where he was going. " Dude I made a mistake dead end ahead. I run up to the wheel, I pull a camera out of my shorts pocket, " Use this, take some pictures I'll steer the boat." Soos runs to the back of the boat.
Go into the waterfall. What! Just trust me, I am your friend right?
