CHAPTER ELEVEN !

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

————✩ ————

"ELENA HAS ESCAPED FROM THE SALVATORE'S HOUSE. Do what you will with that. You didn't hear this from me." Rebekah told her through the phone quickly before hanging up. She clearly seemed to be in a hurry but Astrid was grateful nonetheless. With a sly smile, she put her phone away. The fun was about to begin.

Now, all she had to do was track the vampire and kill her. Of course, it wouldn't be as easy as that but maybe Astrid could at least get some fun from tormenting and hunting her before giving her the final blow. She was eager to see the other's reaction to her presence in town as no one, apart from Katherine and her siblings, was aware she had come back a few days ago.

With her mind fixated on finally avenging her brother, Astrid left the house, trying to remain discreet. She wouldn't want to spoil the surprise and have someone recognize her. First, she tried to check most places a humanity-less Elena would have gone to. As the Gilbert house had been burned to the ground, she went to check on other familiar places.

However, after what seemed like hours of empty searches, she was getting restless and the night was beginning to fall over Mystic Falls. She debated taking one last stroll around town but was cut mid-thought by her phone ringing. "Hello?"

"Astrid." It was Rebekah speaking. "Sorry to disappoint but someone was quicker than you. Elena has been found by the Salvatores and she now has her humanity back on."

Dammit! Astrid should have been faster. Then, again, it's not like looking for Elena around town while trying to remain unseen from others hadn't resembled looking for a needle in a haystack. But, thinking of it, Elena having her humanity back might make things more interesting for her. More leverage for torture.

"Hello? Are you listening? I have Matt lying on my couch and he's going to wake up any minute now and I know you wanted your presence to remain a secret so... are we done?"

"Matt? What is Matt doing on your.... don't tell me you're going out with Matt?" Astrid heard Rebekah sighing through the phone.

"Alright, good night Astrid," Rebekah said before hanging up the phone, not bothering to answer her question. However, her lack of response only proved Astrid's point. She didn't find anything that interesting about the human. Like, sure, he seemed loyal to his friends but he seemed a little... bland.

When Astrid looked back at her phone, she noticed she had a couple of unanswered texts. As of lately, she hadn't been much on her phone so they had probably gone beyond her attention. The first one was from Lukas. There were multiple texts dating from different dates. One had been during the spring break and had been to ask how her spring break was going.
