I woke up feeling an annoying bizz in my head. I tried to move, but winced in pain when I realised my hands were tied behind my back. Two loud voices were argueing in the background.
“Are you out of your mind?!” Caine. “They are followers of the Gaiaphage and both of them almost murdered someone tonight. If we don’t give them to Penny now, what kind of example are we giving to the rest of the kids?!”
“Do you think I’m happy about this, Caine?” Sam sounded exhausted. “One of the victims was my girlfriend, okay?! That sick psychopath almost murdered my girlfriend. Do you think I don’t want both of them gone from this town? But giving them to Penny won’t solve anything, it will only anger them further, making them even more dangerous.”
I slowly blinked open my eyes. Caine and Sam were standing opposite of eachother like two bulls in a fight.
“That’s why I propose to let Penny torture the crap out of them, then you burn Drake until there’s nothing left but ashes, and we throw Gwen in our dungeon until we have a better solution.” Caines narrowed eyes were full of hate.“Yes, and then we have maybe a couple hours before Gaia finds out, and then we have an even bigger problem than we already have.” Sam ran his hands through his hair in frustration.
“And you think your plan will actually lead us somewhere?” Caine snorted.
“I think we should give it a try,” Sam said.I felt the panick arise as I noticed Drake and I were both tied to chairs. I roughly tried to yank my wrists away, but the rope was tied tightly.
“Guys, have you made up your minds already? We don’t have all day.” Calum Lancaster walked into the room, tucking his machine gun in his belt. He gave me a nod. “You’re awake. Good.”
“Sam is being a fucking weeb.” Caine started to chew on his thumb, glaring at his brother. “He doesn’t have the balls to do what needs to be done.”
“Caine, just admit that you’re an egocentric sociopath who cares about nothing but his own reputation,” Sam snapped.Caine threw his hands in the air. “Oh, I’m the one who cares too much about my reputation? Which one out of us is always trying desperately to be the good guy, hm? First your ridiculous plan to unite the freaks and the humans, two groups of people who would rather end eachother than even have a civil conversation, and now we have two of the most dangerous followers of Gaia right here, and you want to let them go?”
“I never said anything about letting them go,” Sam said flatly.Calum sighed. “Guys, with all due respect, save the brotherly rivalry for another moment. And for the record, I agree with Sam. We should give it a try.”
Caine opened his mouth to protest, but after seeing the look on Calums face, he just pressed his lips together and glared at the ground.I fervently tried to think. Whatever Sam had planned for Drake and me, it couldn’t be much worse than an hour with Penny. I had heard the stories about what she could do to an already damaged brain and just the thought of it made me shudder with fear. Sam had always been the softer one out of the two.
“You know, in case anyone cares, I actually agree with Sam as well.” I flashed a smile.
“I don’t remember asking the prisoner for her opinion,” Caine snarled. I chuckled at the word ‘prisoner’.
“Oh, but are you interested in my opinion on something else?” I asked with an innocent voice. “Or maybe Diana would be?”
“What the hell are you talking about!” The anger was building up in Caine as if he could lose it any moment.
“I think Diana would be very interested in my opinion on Hope and you,” I said.Caines face went pale. He abruptly raised his hands, ignoring the confused looks on Sams and Calums faces. “That’s it. I’m going to kill her right now!”
“Gaia? Can you hear me?” I closed my eyes as if I was making contact with Gaia. As if I was actually going to waste her time on something like this. “Yeah, I’m having a little problem right here…”
“For shucks sake, Caine. Don’t make this situation any worse!” Calum roughly yanked Caines arm down.
At that same moment, Drake woke up. He looked around in confusion and started tugging on his ropes. Then, he started to scream.
