Giovanni POV:
My laptop dinged for the 3rd time today, just like it has been doing for the past month and a half. Sucking my teeth I got up and slammed it shut. It was my father. After his first day of school e-mail he was faithfully emailing me 3 times a day. I didn't open any of them.
"Hey baby what you up too?" Aunt Abigail asked.
I looked over at her, standing in the doorway of Kaden's bedroom. I shook my head, "Nothing auntie, just about to start getting ready to head out"
She smiled, "That's right. Today is Friday" I opened my drawer, shoving my laptop inside and grabbing a pair of white Adidas tube socks.
"Yeah, we gonna meet that guys at Silas's family restaurant and then Mostafa is gonna pick us up from there" I pulled on the socks, fixing them so they were scrunched up over my brown sweatpants.
"Your dad called" She sat down on the bed next to me. "He said he's been trying to reach you, it's about something important. He didn't say what it was a bout just that he needed to tell you"
"Yeah I noticed but I've just... I been busy. I don't have time for his excuses or his sorry ass apologies" I told her truthfully.
Aunt Abigail reached out to rub my back but I got up before she did. I didn't want the pity anymore. Nothing anyone said would make me change my mind. He thought an email was going to fix shit between us. His empty promises spoke volumes and I was done trying to patch up our broken relationship.
"I'm not a kid anymore auntie. He thinks his bullshit ass emails are gonna fix things and it's not. It hasn't. I love my dad because he's my dad, I hate him as a person though." I shrugged.
"Giovanni, at some point guys have to speak. You are a hundred percent right, you aren't a kid anymore. So you are old enough to understand that he's working, this was something that he did before you were born baby. He can't just quit."
"I get it but he decided to go back. After my mother died he could have stood and been my father but he chose to go back and deal with his hurt another way. He turned his back on me on more than one occasion, being there financially is only part of being a parent. What about emotionally ? It's like I don't even have parents. My mother is dead and my father is not even here. I ain't seen him in a year" I grabbed my Yeezy foam runners and my cream colored essentials hoodie. "I'm not a kid no more, I do know right from wrong. But he dips any time he gets the chance and I'm done with that." She opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by Kaden rushing into the room.
"Lennox and Rory is downstairs G, you ready ?" He asked sliding his feet into his black nike slides after he pulled on his black nike sweatshirt.
"You guys have fun and be safe" Aunt Abigail said. She got up from her spot on the bed and embraced her son and then pulled me into a hug. "You are truly turning into an incredible man. Have that conversation with your father regardless how it ends, he deserves at least to know how you feel"
Rory POV:
"Why the fuck they taking this long ?" I questioned shoving my hands deeper into the pockets of my windbreaker. It was a chilly night, and standing around waiting wasn't making it any better.
"I don't know bro, ima call them again" LJ answered. He pulled out his phone. It didn't ring for long before Kaden answered, "Yo we coming out now" and then he hung up. LJ sucked his teeth, "I hate when people hang up in my face" I started laughing.
"It took ya long enough" I roll my eyes at LJ's comment.
"Man, shut up. Let's go"
We began walking to the train station when we bumped into a group of people. It was a group of girls, in the grade below us.
"Hey guys, y'all meeting up with the twins now ?" Layla, Aaron and Alijah's younger sister said.
"Yeah, it's Friday where else would we go?" Kaden spoke up.
"Mmhm. Gio can I talk to you real quick ?" We all looked at him as he followed her to the end of the block, a couple of feet ahead of us. It seemed like they were in a heated discussion.
"Ya don't think they fucking right ?" Kaden questioned, LJ slapped him in the arm. "What, y'all was thinking it, I just said it" he sucked his teeth.
"Nah, Giovanni ain't that dumb" I spoke up but I wasn't really so sure. Layla was pretty and she did do a little extra whenever he was around. I noticed this summer how much she acted different around him but I never picked up on Gio's demeanor around Layla.
"Let's go" Giovanni said, pulling me out of my thoughts. We were all staring waiting for him to explain what that was about.
"It wasn't what ya thinking it was. Chill out on me man." He laughed as we started walking to the train again
"So what was it then" I surprised myself when I spoke but I couldn't shake it off. It would fuck the group up if he even thought about dating Layla, especially behind the twins back. It was disrespectful to them. And they never said that we couldn't hit on their sister but I just thought that was something that didn't have to be said.
"She been feeling the kid but I won't go behind Aaron and Alijah's back like that. Ya know me, it won't feel right. She look good and all but if it was really a thought I'd bring it to their attention for sure." I nodded, I was still skeptical.
********
"What's up Papu" we all greeted Silas grandfather. He greeted us with a smile before shooing us away. We walked through the dim restaurant, towards the kitchen where we knew for sure we would find Silas.
"You boys causing trouble" Doris, his mother called out when we swung open the door to the kitchen.
"Hey Ms. C" LJ said.
"Where Silas at" Kaden asked, munching on some chips.
"He's washing dishes, but I'm sure he's more than ready to leave them behind and do what ya do best on Fridays" She grabbed her dishes of food, balancing them perfectly and heading out the kitchen. We walked around the kitchen, past the chefs who greeted us all and towards the back where the sinks were.
"Finally" Silas sighed, "I didn't know how much longer I was gonna be able to wash dishes. My fingers already turned into raisins" He held up he hands, which were wrinkled from the soapy dish water. Silas picked up a dish towel drying his hands and pulling off the apron he had on. "Let's get out of here"
"Wait, someone call Aaron or Alijah. Find out exactly where they are."
"I already texted them" LJ answered scrolling through his phone, "No answer"
"So we just wait then, Y'all wanna eat ?" Silas asked pulling his sweatshirt over his head.
"Yeah man, let's eat I'm starving" Kaden said dusting his crumby fingers.
