Olivia was sat at the dining room table while the girl who she had previously pointed a gun at read a letter from Bill aloud to the other three people in the room. The letter had been addressed to whomever (but probably the kids, or Joel) and the girl had previously read the letter assuming she fell under the 'whomever' category.
The air was thick, and Olivia's eyes stung as she held back tears not daring to make eye contact with anyone else in the room. The girl had paused her reading almost as if she didn't want to continue. Olivia had known that she was about to mention her aunt Tess and the way she had suddenly paused caused her heart to clench. She had a feeling when she had seen Joel without her Aunt that something must've happened.
Joel snatched the letter to finish reading to himself, he glanced up looking at the kids. Dick was the first to speak up, "Where's Aunt Tess?" like Olivia Dick knew the truth but he needed confirmation from Joel. But instead of responding Joel looked away and walked from the house.
The two siblings glanced at each other, whether to look for comfort or confirmation that they both understood the situation they didn't know. That's when Olivia felt the cold tears silently fall from her eyes. She had just lost 3 of some of the most important people in her life and she didn't know what to do.
"She died." the girl from earlier spoke quietly, she was scared, in pain, and didn't know how else to tell the siblings their last parental figure was gone.
Dick simply nodded at the younger girl.
Olivia however needed to be alone, she stood causing both eyes to fall on her. She just stood there for a little while before finally walking away without saying a word to anyone.
Ellie looked at Dick confused, the boy had tears in his eyes, but it was almost as if he was trying to mask his emotions. He looked numb, like he wasn't fully there, unbeknownst to Ellie he often had that look on his face. You never knew what the eighteen-year-old was thinking or feeling at any given moment.
"I'm Ellie"
"Dick"
Ellie didn't like the silence of the stagnant air that surrounded her so she was scrambling her brain for anything to say. However, nothing felt appropriate given the circumstances.
The door opened revealing Joel who had now composed himself. "Where's Olivia?" Joel questioned glancing around the room for the fourteen-year-old. Ellie shrugged, as dick stood ready to go get her.
