-Ella's POV-

Oh how I hate homework. It's just so damn boring. I mean it's bad enough we are in school 6 hours a day...now the teachers feel the need to give us 2 hours worth of school work to do at home! I don't understand it, do they think we live anti social lives? Oh well I guess I don't really have a choice I'm 15 and going to have to deal with this for a few more years before it stops...I guess I'll just get it done and stop complaining. I took out all of my books and papers from my bag and threw them on my bed, while searching for an elastic to tie back my long, brown, wavy hair. Plopping back down on my bed I opened up the dreaded history text book, focusing my blue eyes on the page and beginning to read all about how Canada became a country and some other random stuff that I really didn't care about. Just as I finished reading and was ready to start doing the follow up questions I heard my phone ring. I picked it up and noticed a text from Riley.

'Ella! I'm bored with this homework let's hang out!'

I couldn't help but laugh at him. He was worse than me when it came to the school stuff but I always got him to finish it. I decided to respond not wanting him to feel like I'm choosing homework over him.

'Riley! I can't :( gotta get this work done...why don't you come over and bring ur books we'll do it together? :)'

This is the only way we're going to be able to hang out today. I see Riley everyday rain or shine. He's my best friend and if we don't see each other at all one day then we're on the phone or Skype or face time or some method of contact. Ever since we were babies we have been inseparable. We just understand each other and get along great. He never fails to put a smile on my face and we have been together through everything.

'OKAY!! I'll be over in 10 :)'

I put my phone down and focused back on my homework. I had become lost in what I was reading which is why I didn't notice when Riley came into my room.

"Hey" I said

"Hey" He replied

"Riley you should really read this history its more interesting than you think" I told him

"I guess I don't really have a choice do I?" he chuckled.

"Nope now get to work, the faster this gets done the better"

Before I knew it we were done. It was almost dinner time and of course my parents weren't home...but what's new? I assumed Riley had to get home because his mom probably had his dinner ready and knowing her she would want him there and ready to eat. I usually just ate whatever was in the house for dinner since my parents were never around to make it for me. Being an only child and having very little support from my parents forced me to teach myself everything when I was young. I really don't have any family. I live in a small town in Canada where there is practically nobody around. However, with Riley around for me more often things have changed; not a lot but they've changed.

"El, are your parents not home again?" Riley asked me

"Nope...whats new" I laughed

"Ella this is ridiculous. Why don't you come over to my house for dinner, my mom won't mind. I promise" he said.

"No, I'm fine Riley don't worry about me...I'll call you later. Ok?" I said walking to the door with him.

"Ella-" he tried to argue but I cut him off

"Riley I am fine. Just go home and call me later. You need to stop worrying about me."

"Fine I'll see you later then" he sighed

"Bye Riley. Don't forget to call me" I joked. I know he would never forget but it's fun to tease him.

"I won't don't worry. Bye"

I watched him walk down the street until I couldn't see him anymore. I know he cares about me and is worried but I'm a big girl and I can take care of myself.

Oh well Riley is just being Riley and there's no changing that....
