The rest of my day went by pretty smoothly. No one knew about what happened at the party except my brother, Ethan and Elise. And obviously the person who did it. I just prayed that it wasn't someone from my school, all sorts of rumours could have been spread around about me. What if people get told I did the frickle frackle with this douche bag? What if he told everyone that I tried it on with him? I shivered at the thought. After school, I made my way to Subway where Ethan was waiting for me.
He didn't look happy at all.
I quickly looked up at the clock to see if I was late. Only by 3 minutes. He can't be angry at that can he?
"Why the long face?" I asked whilst fastening my apron. Ethan stared at me for a few seconds and then shook his head, turning his attention to filling the container of ham. I furrowed my eyebrows. "What's happened?" He sighed and took his gloves off. I started filling a container with meatballs whilst he explained.
"I've got a week of detention starting tomorrow." He stated whilst showing me his hand. His knuckles were bruised severly.
"Why?" I asked. He simply raised one eyebrow, as if to tell me the reason was obvious. Then, it hit me. "You're the reason why Luke's face is purple?" He nodded.
"He was the person who tried it on with you at the party." My eyes widened. After what happened with him in the kitchen this caught me by surprise. I felt so ashamed of myself for saying what I said to him.
"Are you serious?"
"Unfortunately." He sighed. "Him and his friends were talking about it in the bathroom today. He kept saying how you begged him to do it and how you guys actually ended up in bed together. I had to do something to shut him up." He explained, not looking me in the eye. I sighed, I never pictured Ethan as a violent person. He was usually the one stopping the fights my brother got into. It was expected that Luke would turn it around to make himself look innocent and like a champion in the eyes of the other lads. So typical.
"I would hug you but my hands are covered in meatball sauce." I stared down at the plastic gloves on my hands and quickly realised it would have been easier to not use my hands. Ethan laughed and shook his head at my stupidity. "Thanks for standing up for me. But next time try not to bruise the other person's face. Words are very useful and tend to have less punishing consequences in these situations." He laughed again and then put his gloves on to carry on filling the containers with meat. Between 2 and 4 the place was usually quite dead so we always spent our time making sure the place looked immaculate and restocking all the food to make sure we would have no complaints of the lack of fillings when it came to the rush hour.
"Can you go get some more sauce bottles from the back? I think we're running out of sweet onion, tomato and honey mustard suace." Ethan requested. I nodded and made my way to the back before he cut me off. "Oi, you forgot a very important step before leaving the kitchen," I turned to face him, confused as to what I did wrong. He signalled down at my messy gloves. I sighed and threw them in the bin.
"Good girl." You'd think this would sound patronising, but he said it in a way that almost sounded sexy. I shook my head at the thought of finding Ethan even the slightest bit sexy and went to the back to fetch the sauces.
When I came back to the front of the restaurant, I noticed that Ethan was no longer filling up the counter.
He was kissing a customer from across the counter.
Not only was it not very hygienic, but for some reason it gave me a weird feeling inside.
That feeling wasn't good.
I suddenly felt the urge to seperate them, they obviously didn't acknowledge my presense. So I coughed, and they both leaped away from eachother. Ethan stared at me in embarassment.
"Boss wouldn't appreciate it if he found out you were kissing a customer whilst leaning over numerous food items. Not very hygienic is it? Or romantic for that matter." I said casually. I was surprised by my confidence at that moment. I expected my comment to come out in multiple stutters. Ethan chuckled nervously and ran a hand through his hair whereas the girl he was previously snogging stood there with a triumphant smirk on her face. He must have forgot that he still had dirty gloves on because not only did his hair have a load of sauce, but so did the girl's face. I tried to hold in my chuckle as she didn't even notice and neither did Ethan as he was looking at me.
"Uh, Summer this is Lola, my girlfriend." Lola shook my hand with an innocent smile. However, her eyes made the smile less innocent.
"I'm going to let you get back to work babe. See you tonight." She gave him a kiss on the cheek and then winked at me before turning away. Ethan's eyes widened when he noticed the sauce. He opened his mouth to call her back but the door had shut before he managed. I don't know why but it felt good knowing that she was currently roaming the streets with a combination of subway condiments on her face. Obviously it wasn't enough to look like a face mask but just enough to make her look a lil stupid. Ethan looked at me and blushed.
"She had a little.." he said, pointing at the area on his face where the sauce was. I nodded and finally was able to start laughing. I did feel bad for her though. It is quite embarrassing."She's.. interesting.." I said slowly after I stopped laughing and got over the sauce incident. Ethan nervously chuckled and got back to his work, as if he was trying to awkwardly avoid talking about her. "How long have you been together?" I asked, trying to remove the awkwardness that circled the room.
"Not very long.." I gave him a stern look. "Okay! Only a day.." I couldn't help but laugh.
"No wonder you looked so uncomfortable when I walked in on you guys!" He sighed and took off his gloves. The gloves were off.
"We hooked up at the party. And then again after I dropped you home. And then again this morning. She introduced me to her roommate as her boyfriend even though I never asked her out. Before, she kinda gave me that look that told me to introduce her as my girlfriend." He explained.
"So.. she's technically not your girlfriend?" I asked, he nodded. "Do you even like her like that?"
He shook his head."It's purely sexual attraction." He replied with a sigh. I suddenly felt quite bad for him. But I felt worse for her. She must be quite delusional. Poor girl.
"Then tell her! The worst that could happen is she would slap you for leading her on. What have you got left to lose?"
"You're right. I'll tell her tonight. Thanks Summer." He then got back to work and we didn't talk about it again for the rest of the evening.

I got home and collapsed onto the couch next to my Dad. Who knew cleaning tables for 5 hours straight could be so exhausting? Working at Subway should be an olympic sport, especially when you get families with multiple children coming in. I sometimes wonder how much of the food their kids actually eat in comparison to the amount that ends up on the floor.
"Where's Kian, Dad?" I asked, remembering that I needed to tell him about Luke.
"He's upstairs, doing homework with some girl." I nodded and ran upstairs. I silently chuckled. As if Kian brought a girl home to do homework. They're definitely NOT doing homework. As soon as I reached the top of the stairs, I could hear them. The sounds I was met with surprised me and I'm so glad that my Dad couldn't hear from downstairs. Kian kept it quiet this time. I contemplated leaving them to it and waiting until tomorrow, but then I thought of Elise. She'd want to know who this girl was considering she has a humungous crush on my brother. So, I covered my eyes with my hand and burst open the door. It all went silent.
"Summer what the fuck?" I heard Kian shout. I lowered my hand and saw my best friend attempting to hide under the covers. My eyes widened.
Okay maybe I should have left them to it.
